Merlin tossed his hat across the office as he came in, aiming for the coat rack and missing by a mile. A suspiciously convenient breeze caught the hat before it could hit the floor and wafted it neatly up onto a hook. Gwen giggled at him and he coughed, making a "Did I do that?" face.
"I see you've solved the Buttons case," she observed, pointing to his wriggling, squirming jacket.
"She was wandering around the back alleys! I didn't even need magic, just tuna." A tiny face poked up under his chin. "Can't we keep her?" Merlin asked plaintively.
Gwen tried to look stern, but dissolved in the face of pure kitten-ness. "Well, maybe just for a little while."

While they waited for the bus, Merlin did his best to ignore the bedraggled figure by his side. The rain was coming down in stair rods now and he had a horrible feeling there was no bus for at least forty-five minutes. Possibly longer.
“I think it’s stopping,” Merlin said, hopefully.
“It’s not stopping,” came Arthur’s reply through gritted teeth. “It’s never going to stop, ever, we’re going to catch pneumonia and die again and it will all be your fault.”
“Now you’re just being grumpy.”
”Grumpy?! You disappeared the car. I don’t even want to speak to you. I am never being reincarnated with you again.”
