Oh my god, that was PERFECT! How on earth did you know I wanted to see Sherlock getting himself into trouble and Lestrade helping him out??? I think the moment I first realised I liked them was in episode one when Lestrade has searched Sherlock's flat and just KNOWS him so well, and can see through all his little evasions :D :D

I loved how it gets turned on its head here, and that for all his genius Sherlock has still managed to misunderstand and think Lestrade is only helping him for gain, and not because he does actually like and respect him (crazy as he can be sometimes).

One Holmes was enough to take without caffeination in the morning; two would be unbearable.

SO VERY TRUE. Lestrade, you have my admiration :D

::hugs fic:: This was a wonderful birthday present, thank you! I have my very own Lestrade/Sherlock and they are perfectly themselves :) :)

That's easy: extensive grilling of vensre about your fic preferences and, of course, the science of deduction. *g*

Actually, I was not sure, but I am very glad it worked. :D It occurred to me that Lestrade must make a lot of exceptions for Sherlock (the only consulting detective the police will go to, hmmmm?) and is walking a fine line between keeping him on the straight and narrow and turning a blind eye when it comes to some of his activities. (I have no doubt if Lestrade really wanted to bust Sherlock for drugs possession, he would.) And I like to think that we've seen Sherlock behaving himself relatively well at crime scenes and so on, because he respects Lestrade. Lalala, more than you ever wanted to know about my personal canon for them, I bet. :D

Thank you, you are too kind ♥

The 'men with umbrellas' line brings to mind a department full of shadowy, umbrella-wielding government figures. But really I think even a whole team of them couldn't match Mycroft for the quality of vaguely sinister meddling he gives!

Lestrade seems very healthy for Sherlock, as somebody to give him a hard time or cut him slack when he needs one or the other. There can't be too many people in Sherlock's world that get that mix right the majority of the time.

So ♥♥.

There are probably some like Mr. Steed who fulfill an umbrella-wielding action role in the secret service. And then there are the umbrellas like Mycrofts that occupy the "quietly menacing" niche.

Sherlock does desperately need healthy influences in his life (and people who will go to bat for him in ways that don't, for example, the overthrow of a minor world power just because the country has stopped growing Sherlock's favourite variety of cocoa bean).

Thanks for reading! ♥
