Breaking down the Casey Anthony trial...

I used to listen to Loveline all the time when I was late teens and early twenties. For those of you who are not familiar, Loveline is a radio show that gives advice about life, love, sex, and health to teenagers. The hosts were Adam Carolla, a hilarious comedian, and Dr. Drew (Pinsky), a "board certified physician and addiction medicine specialist ( Read more... )

The problem that I have with the coverage, other than the fact that it is not stop, is that every one is covering it as if she has already been found guilty. Yes, I do believe she is guilty. But our Consitution is very clear that everyone is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, by a jury of their peers. If I were called for this jury duty, could I put my beliefs aside and make an impartial decision based solely on the evidence? Yes, I think I could-- it may help that I was delpoyed when it happened so I didn't get a lot of the initial news coverage.
But like I said, the part that really bothers me is the media's conviction of Casey Anthony. Nancy Grace is the worst offender of this. She sits up there with her holier-than-thou mullet and rains down accusations and condemnation on a woman who has yet to have her day in court. SO much for unbiased media. One would expect a more even report from someone with a law degree and former attorney, some one who should understand how the process works. On another note, it is ironic that Nancy Grace is providing near around the clock coverage of this trial in light of her book about the same (Objection! - How High-Priced Defense Attorneys, Celebrity Defendants, and a 24/7 Media Have Hijacked Our Criminal Justice System)...

Yep. Nancy Grace is a twit.

Every time I yell at the TV for spraying me with more coverage rather than the relevant news I am seeking, I have to check myself, though. The root problem is more insidious than the Media.

At the bottom line, they simply give the American people what they want--and as much of it as they can. At the bottom of it all, Adam was right: there is a whole group of people who will sit and watch the coverage nonstop and click every single web link they can find about it. There is something about the American people that loves seeing people hung out to dry. They know she did it and they want her crucified for doing it.

(As an aside, I understand that in the eyes of the law, she is innocent until proven guilty, but none of these talking heads on the news get to decide whether she is or not. They are just giving opinions, another paradoxical freedom we have. Either way, I don't need a court to tell me some people are guilty before I conclude it from the evidence presented to me. Bin Laden is a good example of this.)

Anyway, it's the fault of the idiots who watch all this garbage that I am subjected to it. Oh, and Nancy Grace, too. I can't stand her. I think I'll start blaming other things on her as well, just out of spite.
