"LOSS, GRIEF AND THE RACER FAMILY"
On the Speed Racer forum, a member posted a comment on how the themes of loss, grief and healing seemed to resonate in the movie, using the Racer family's grief over Rex's "death" as an example.
But it occurred to me that one other family member had to face the same thing - but in a different way. I suppose that Racer X's (aka Rex) refusal to join his family in the victory circle, following the Grand Prix Race was another sign of grief and loss - at least for him. In his case, the deception over his "death" has led him to believe that it was too late for him to rejoin the family circle. And that he has to maintain his distance from Speed and the others. It must have been especially difficult for him to come to this conclusion, considering what happened during the Casa Cristo Rally and his talk with Speed at the Thunderhead Racetrack.
