It's been well over a month since I last posted anything, but it's not as though I don't check lj every day to see what my friends are up to. So, I figured that today was as good a day as any for me to get off my butt and say something. Grad school is both the best and worst thing I've experienced at MSU. It's great because I only have class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I only have two classes. Plus, my own actual research project is non-existant, so I don't have a ton of my own research to be doing in the lab. It's absolutely terrible because I only have the slightest idea what Dr. H. is talking about in Advanced Thermodynamics even after I've read the assigned reading 3 times and taken my own notes on it before class, and because my Thermo class is so small I actually have to participate which I almost never do in any of my classes ever. And even though Advanced Computations is going a bit better, it's kind of boring, and the prof just had her third grad student drop out of school, and most of the class is the people she had for undergraduate controls that she dubbed "the class from hell". So I'm basically just waiting for things to hit the fan soon with that. Oh, and have I mentioned the insane amount of reading you have to do? It's just beyond crazy. So those of you interested in either grad school or vet school, look out. It's definitely a double-edged sword.
Other than grad school, life's pretty good. I've managed to fill most of my free time with tutoring student athletes and teaching newly-hired under grads how to do things in the lab. The tutoring bit is kind of fun, but also really frustrating because I'm tutoring them in every subject they have and they sometimes really don't want to do anything other than look themselves up on the internet. Plus, they're all actually smarter than they like to let on, they just have this idea that they have to act dumb to be cool. And just about everyone who knows me, knows that's one of my major pet peeves. Oh well, I get paid $7/hr to deal with it, and I made about $100 last week, so I can't complain too much.
I'm trying to do a lot of wedding stuff, but it's really hard to plan for a wedding that's 10 hours away. My mom's doing the best she can in terms of getting things together (like menus, and tent/floor rental info, etc). I'm struggling with letting other people help me out with things, since I like to do things myself (that whole, overly independent thing), so that makes things even harder. Joel and I will be heading to Beaufort in two weeks to hopefully finally decide for certain exactly where we plan to have the wedding/reception. We both want to have them at the same location, and we're both really picky, but I'm hoping we'll agree on a site this time.
Joel and I might actually be going shopping today, which will make me very, very happy. I'll actually get to buy some new shoes! I hope that everyone had a great time at the get together last night! I'm hoping for things to settle down soon, so maybe I'll be able to make it to some SAI functions- yay! :)
