and you have been *very* naughty in my sight.

To everyone who commented on the previous post: thank you so much. ♥ Your kind words and e-hugs made me feel immeasurably better. I feel a lot better now: sometimes it's good to talk about things that are bothering you so you can put them in perspective and take them in your stride. Thank you for letting me do that. ♥ Super-special thanks to amarukei, yukitsu, kye_kestrel and amandes for giving me a new perspective on things. ♥

Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name has a fascinating new guest-artist update with a flashback to young!Hanna's past, go look and tell me what you think, the possibilities fascinate and intrigue me! When you do that it will also be useful to have on hand this official!artwork of Hanna's Walk Through the Ages as perspective.

Thoughts

omg the art! the storytelling! the possibilities! the foreshadowing! the sneaky peek into Hanna's backstory! AUGHHHHHHH I LOVE THIS! I love a comic strip I can go and THINK about and talk to people about and get ZILLIONS of possibilities and answers about WHAT IT COULD BE!

Also also! This might add some depth and colour: someone by the name of cybertronics has linked the song the girl is singing in the panel (I would never have thought to look for it, which is why I always read comments, it's where I get a lot of insight): it is A Stór Mo Chroí (translation there), the song is Irish and means "darling of my heart." It makes me think of amarukei :D - you might know/like this song already, since you know music! The lyrics are about leaving your land for a stranger land and leaving your loved ones behind you, which works on a literal perspective, and then when you put it in context with the flashback strip you're "In this context IT'S ABOUT leaving the land of the Living for the afterlife!"

ETA to add amazing ideas/research
demoerin says that the artist's dA says she based the little girl around the Banshee/Keeners! Here's Wiki's entry on banshees: "a female spirit in Irish mythology, usually seen as an omen of death and a messenger from the Otherworld", "Although not always seen, her mourning call is heard, usually at night when someone is about to die and usually around woods", and "Kerry in the southwest of Ireland, her keen is experienced as a 'low, pleasant singing'".
lacewood called the banshee idea without reference to the artist's explanation, and has identified the Irish mythology concept of the three birds of Rhiannon: "Another of their treasures were the "Three Birds of Rhiannon", which, we are told in an ancient book, could sing the dead to life and the living into the sleep of death. Fortunately they sang seldom."

re. shirt pattern: I could see that too. Either way. But I like the shirt pattern indicating scars idea better. :D MORE DELICIOUS FORESHADOWING. ;)

See, I in and of myself am a closed room of perspectives of possibilities, it is only when I speak to others, read what others are writing and thinking, then the doors and windows of my limited perspective can truly OPEN to other possibilities.

The art puts me very much in mind of the Flight comics. And I love the paneling and the storytelling and EEEEE. ♥ I'm so thrilled about the story that it really doesn't cross my mind to feel bad about poor Hanna.

*hums Don't Fear the Reaper*

half_sleeping's thoughts on the update are here. The colleague I mentioned here had this inflicted on her as well (I really wanted other thoughts on this). What I wanna know is:

WHAT IS THAT GIRL? I thought she was Death, really: a manifestation of it, at least, taking the dead bird to its final rest, and saying that she would sing her song for Hanna when she saw him again.

My friend - and maybe half_sleeping? - thinks she is a Girl Who Can See Dead (and Dying) People. Perhaps she is not human, but she certainly has a line to the other world. My friend thinks that the specter standing behind young!Hanna in the last two panels is the true Reaper.

And we had a really long discussion about the symbolism of the cage and the 'Rest in Peace' key. And then we had a debate about whether death was a prison, a doorway, or a release. I said that the whole meta-business about the cage never came into play until you entertained the possibility that the girl was Death, or a manifestation thereof.

And if the girl is Death, then what of the specter behind Hanna? A different manifestation of Death? Death the Peaceful and Death the Reaper? AUGH ENQUIRING MINDS MUST KNOW AND HAVE NO WAY OF FINDING OUT!

In completely unrelated news, Tales of the Abyss and also Mieu.

I love icons and reading icon keywords, and this, I loved:

omg some days I feel like that.

Also augh Livejournal what have you done with this new interface, I will be hating it until I get used to it (keep clicking "Scrapbook every time I mean to "Upload Pictures"). Not even an option to "Have Things The Way They Used To Be". Or, in the CRY MOAR tone of TVTropes, They Changed It Now It Sucks.

bring on a brand new update!, hanna is not a boy's name, tales of the abyss, and i must scream
