If you haven't seen this already (if you follow Neil Gaiman's blog you might already have), see
Eric by Shaun Tan, a beautifully illustrated tale about Eric, a rather unusual foreign exchange student, who comes to live with the narrator.
I type this from
lacewood's laptop in
lacewood's incredibly nice room (surrounded by books! Books! Also graphic novels!) - borrowed for the express purposes of posting that link, now commandeered for other more arcane purposes.
Met up with
lacewood and
rei_kurasaki for dinner in classy Italian restaurant after long and crazy (but very fun) day, hilarious conversation ensued about numerous things, such as
imaginarybeasts,
cfud through the ages (apparently one of us, I shall not name names, and it really is not me) started following from when it had nineteen players; stalking people; and fanfiction.
A Tale Only Relevant To Sam: Zombie vs Doc Worth
Also have long-running (ie for over a week) debate with
rei_kurasaki over whether she is Zombie (whom she wants to be more like) or Doc Worth (this is who I say she is); as evidence I present:
In a discussion about career plans:
Me: I want to make little children smile.
rei_kurasaki: Be a dentist. :D
Me: ...
rei_kurasaki: If I was a dentist and kids cried in my waiting room, I will take out my [dental tools - here she mimes a small, whirring circular saw], and say, 'Stop crying, or I'll cut you a new mouth'. And then [imitates shocked expression] - when he stops cring, I'll say, "Smile for me, boy."
Me: ... you will never be Zombie ever.
So we settled in
lacewood's room: Sam was reading the
Flight series of graphic novels, while I curled up on Pei Yi's Bed Part 2 with her copy of Good Omens, until I recalled a well-I-read-it-as-slashy story by
Amy Kim Ganter, which was published in
Flight 2 - A Test For Cenri. This, I have learnt from
lacewood, was in fact part of her
Reman Mythology series, which as of March 2009 had been taken down and was stated to be being turned into a prose novel. As the artist/writer in question became a new mother as of November 2009, I think it highly likely that this may never happen, but hey, we can still hope!
Okay running off to watch Constantine now! (... both Pei Yi and Sam have taken turns to read this over my shoulder. Sam laughed especially hard when reading over the You Are Never Gonna Be Zombie conversation)
