Certain varieties of Yamagoku are capable of inspiring in me what certain types of Phoenix Wright fanfiction does, that is to say, it makes me laugh and laugh and then laugh even more. Some of my happiest Reborn fandom memories actually involve people telling me Yamagoku doujinshi/fic plots until I collapse from laughter.
re. Chapter 225 (locked to KHR community) of the Reborn manga:
- re. cover: shirtless!Xanxus thinks he is on the cover of the Mafia version of Playgirl
- It is like a crossover with Tales of the Abyss, ligers, indeed.
- I LIKE WATCHING XANXUS BLEED. :D :D :D PLEASE BRING ON THE SUFFERING.
half_sleeping, naturally, said that this rendered Gokudera completely superfluous to the plot. I actually had to leave the computer after reading this and while I was out, accidentally sent a text message to elvaron referring to spurious and unwarranted allegations as to Gokudera's usefulness.
Which resulted in:
elvaron: 'Gokudera? Useful?'
Went to LC with the intent of meeting theprerogative and seki_yumizu today, but grabbed a seat at Starbucks and ended up running into adayume and cleyra. We were later joined by aslah and mushrooms, and then a whole host of others. There was this point when aslah moved over to another table and adayume accused her of abandoning her to the GokuTsuna fans. :D
I am a very bad stealth!stalker. And by that I mean that when I am looking at you, you and the entire world will know. My gaze will burn a hole on your back, and if I am trying to take photographs of you on the sly, you will look up at me before the first shot is taken.
Also when I think something is cute I cannot stop staring, see, for example, my reaction to adorable babies, adorable toddlers, adorable puppies, kittens, and adorable people on my flist, ie. theprerogative. :D :D :D SHE IS SO CUTE. Kind of puts me in mind of ironicbonds level of cute, which will EAT YOU ALIVE.
And now I have sufficiently creeped you out I will return to the original topic. But really. I am pretty much harmless. Just excuse me while I stare.
theprerogative has lots of AWESOME DOUJINSHI all of which I approve of 100%, I want to kidnap her and the doujinshi BOTH.
Somehow the conversation went on to the topic of XANXUS's roadkill hair-accessory, to which theprerogative and I instantly went: "YOU MUST READ THIS XANXUS AS A RACCOON FIC.
Every time half_sleeping does a request post I laugh sadistically and watch the fun, and by fun I mean authorial suffering. Most recent here, and try this: Hibari vs. Mukuro re. Tsuna in the backseat of a car. My favourite line was that one about the wandering hands.
Earlier drabbles up here. My favourite was the result of a prompt beginning, "Models! Hibari/Tsuna/Mukuro, fighting for Tsuna's attention". Requesters also seemed to be having a field day by pairing up Xanxus with people he is not ordinarily paired up with: my favourite is the Hibari/Xanxus, and there is also Xanxus/Chrome and Xanxus/Gokudera.
Then I think we talked about how there was Xanxus/Kyoko and Xanxus/Haru fic. Out there. Somewhere. Actually in existence.

So anyway there was this AWESOME novel I saw in Japan, entirely in Japanese, which had dragonrider!Gokudera on the cover, with a silhouette of Yamamoto's face turned wistfully away from the reader, lit by the setting sun. I am entirely certain that I would have bought it if it had not been (a) a novel in Japanese, and (b) 1,050¥. Okay fine, I know that is only US$12 at current exchange rates, but there is a limit to what I am willing to pay for what is obviously (c) Yamagoku just to satisfy my burning curiosity. In other words and baseball parlance, three strikes and you're out.
I really, really wanted it to be like Eragon, only written by Stephanie Meyer. ♥ *happy sigh*
So adayume, theprerogative, seki_yumizu and I got to talking, and there was the sudden decision of LET'S DO A KOREAN DRAMA AU!REBORN (Incidentally there is Asian Drama Cliche!1827 fic), SO:
Warning for Character Death, Complete Disrespect, and many other horrible things
nobody sane will take any of this seriously, but still. NOT MEANT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY.

any resemblance to any fictional persons and situations outside of Akira Amano's KHR are either, or both, accidental and coincidental.
Also, a word of warning: In Korean dramas, to exist is to invite misfortune.

Anyway this was all about how in a Korean drama someone has to be struck down by cancer, but the general logic is that it cannot be the one who is most likely to get it (ie. Gokudera). For maximum angst, the victim has to be someone least likely to get it, henceforth Yamamoto should.
Discovery should be by chance, on the part of clinical practice via casual disinterest and "I don't treat men" hand-waving on Shamal's part.
Thereafter, in keeping with tradition, there should be a great deal of angst and recrimination, largely on Gokudera's part, involving the culpability of second-hand smoke.
adayume said (actual words greatly summarised) that this is a story that starts out as 8059, but due to Yamamoto's decline, ends up as 5980.
At some point in time, it was decided, Yamamoto should attempt to follow his earlier established patterns by attempting to committ suicide, this time by ripping out his IV lines and attempting to disconnect himself from all life-support apparatus. Also that this attempt should be thwarted by Gokudera (cue more tearful recriminations and hand-holding).
Autumn turns to winter, and as the last leaves are falling from the trees, there is a shadow of a man in a wheelchair as a lifetime flickers out in the arms of the storm.
...
And then all of a sudden Shamal comes rushing up to them, waving an X-Ray, saying that he'd got it wrong, that Yamamoto's records had been mixed up with someone else's, that there had been a mis-diagnosis, that it was the chemotherapy that was slowly killing Yamamoto and not the cancer.
There were two schools of thought on how the story should end: either that the shock should actually succeed in killing Yamamoto in his weakened state, or, that it should turn out that the original charts were Gokudera's, and it was in fact Gokudera who was dying.
And then there was:
The other half of the Korean drama saga was, Someone has to lose their memory, and Someone has to wind up in a coma.
So it was decided that Xanxus and Hibari should be travelling together on a way to a mafia assignation when lo and behold, they should end up in a car accident. Insurance premiums must be stratospheric in the Korean drama world: to exist is to invite misfortune.
So! The car accident results in Xanxus in a coma and Hibari losing his memories. Hibari comes to in the wreckage, and he imprints (like a fledgling) on the first thing he sees: Xanxus.
Amnesiac!Hibari comes to believe that Xanxus is his beloved older brother - ('Don't we look alike?' he asks+), and waits unfailingly by Xanxus's bedside for his beloved Niisan to awaken, while Squalo and Tsuna watch the tableau, alternating between stunned horror and Why is this happening to me? Tsuna largely because he is not convinced that Hibari has lost his memories and is expecting to be bitten to death at any moment, or that he will be bitten to death the second Hibari recovers who he used to be.
+ compare pictures of colour spread of TYL!Xanxus and TYL!Hibari. It cannot be said that there is no resemblance.
At this point, either theprerogative or mushrooms said that there was actually in existence a Korean drama like that.
I meant what I said about the bad ideas.

Today I said that I had a bad feeling that I would turn into a 8059 fan if I was still into Reborn by the time this year is up.
I only fear it will not take that long.
Also also also I met elvaron for dinner, and there was Asch doujin and ramen and mentaiko and El ♥ and crepe and yuzu ice cream after. In other words, all kinds of AWESOME.
