warning incoming TLDR narugami October 29 2008, 03:10:53 UTC
You zoomed in on his eyes, and that's the cutest part :D

The thing about Vocaloid fandom is that the fandom IS the canon. Aside from one or two sample songs, all the works are by fans, so all the running gags about how Kaito is a maniac for ice cream etc are entirely made up by the fans. And so many people participate and make songs, music videos of other people's work, parodies, and who knows what else, that the amount and variety in what's there is really impressive. Plus it's often done in styles that people wouldn't dare use for mainstream anime ^^

For example, one of the most famous Kaito songs is Cheating Fighter Urotanda, which is a parody of typical sentai theme songs in which Kaito extols the merits of fighting dirty to get your way. "All that matters is if we win." Then someone made an answer song, in a way, called "This is Our Justice" in which another Vocaloid, Meiko, sings about how power is meaningless without justice. And there's actually a whole series of videos building off that about Justice's tragic battle against Urotander. (Warning: somebody made a very technically amazing and also extremely traumatizing PV for the Urotander video OTL not that I'm making judgments or anything but UH.)

If you will tolerate me spamming you with more links, my very favorite Kaito vid is this one The Girl in White Tiger Field">, a cover of the ending theme to Paprika done by BucchigiriP and with a video made by Glider. Another good one is Solo for A Thousand Years

I guess a big reason I'm so into it, even when it's awkward or just badly made, is because of the incredible creative outpouring from all these people who aren't professional composers or artists or anything but are still making wonderful works of art. That are three thousand times better than the junk that wins art awards these days. (Why yes, I am actually still angry over this, what the hell.)

Plus the whole "virtual idol" part reminds me of Macross Plus ^^ More power to you for the literary reference, though! XD I've never read Gibson, sad to say.

Monckton's stuff reminds me of a less nerdy xkcd :) And well, the Penguin of Death is funnier to me ^^;

you always say TLDR! ;) "to love: do read?" XDDD thelovemafia October 29 2008, 15:46:46 UTC
(naw, I know what it means. BUT FOR YOU IT HAS A DIFFERENT MEANING~)

His eyes are the cutest part of him! I don't seem to know this consciously, all I know is that when I make icons, I just keep going until I like what I see. "Not enough cute. Not enough cute. AH! Exactly the right amount of cute!"

The thing about Vocaloid fandom is that the fandom IS the canon.
GREAT PLACE TO BE IN, EH? ;)

all the running gags about how Kaito is a maniac for ice cream etc are entirely made up by the fans.
*CHOKES AND DIES LAUGHING* That is so cute! Fanon, in every sense of the word! ;)

I love the story about Kaito's sentai theme song! THIS IS OUR JUSTICE kind of makes me SMILE A LOT. :D :D :D *is made happy*

omebody made a very technically amazing and also extremely traumatizing PV for the Urotander video
You make me so very curious, and as a result I may now stumble into about ten or more traumatising videos just to see if I've found the right one.

!! ♥ Thanks for the links! I shall be certain to check them out! :)) Your favourites, especially!

... MY GOD THE TURNER PRIZE LINK D8 D8 D8 I AM SO OUTRAGED. I was horribly annoyed about Tracy's Bed, even, but THIS IS JUST RIDICULOUS. You know, I once read this book by Nancy A. Collins, titled Angels on Fire, where the basic premise was that devils and angels walk among us, doing what they do. And one of the ways demons did their work was by rewarding awful art so that the good artists would be demoralised and go sell their souls or stop producing work. That sort of thing.

And at times like this I can almost believe that it is true.

I didn't read Gibson until I decided I would try my hand at a cyberpunk story and then needed to find out what cyberpunk was. I read Neuromancer first. Then Idoru. His writing is a lot like information overload, in an edgy futuristic way.

Monckton's stuff reminds me of a less nerdy xkcd :)
XDDDDD I THOUGHT THE SAME THING! ♥

The Penguin of Death is hilarious, though. In researching the previous post I turned up a site that was dedicated to listing the ways in which the penguin could kill you.

well I don't want to try your patience.. narugami October 30 2008, 03:03:56 UTC
The Urotanda story is rendered amazing-er by the fact that an actual real CD is getting released in collaboration by the composer ShinP and Fuuga Naoto, the real singer who donated his voice to make KAITO. And yes it has This Is Our JUSTICE! on it apparently. I, I don't know if it's going to be the best thing ever or just taking a bad joke too far. Or maybe both at the same time ^^;

Uh oh ^^ Well, there are lots of parody videos around, but I was thinking of this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxOBUY3v9N8 I want to link it for Kaito's dramatic saber battle and want to wipe it from my mind forever for Kaito wearing nothing but his scarf. DON'T ASK ME I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT AND WASH MY HANDS OF ALL RESPONSIBILITYYYY >_>

That sounds like a neat book actually! A bit like the part in Good Omens about the cursed highway.

Ohhh, did you post you story already?

It is outrageous! That guy isn't an artist, he's a SCAM ARTIST. It's so disrespectful to anyone who's ever made art if some idiot can walk in and rewire the lighting and walk out with the richest prize in the world. It's a scandal :/
