Poem- A Tape from '94

Feb 25, 2010 20:14

Written for Creative Writing- we were asked to do a short piece on something we're searching for.  My musings on "growing up".

Flowers grow on super-
Speed; fast-forward times fifteen.
Charlie checks his mathematics
While Algernon rams the screens.

If I could pause at .0015 seconds,
And look with a keen perception,
Could I maybe find some askance-angle woman,
Or am I too close to conception?

Mirrors turn at a 6-
Degree angle; fast-forward to twenty-one.
Lolita’s leaving with child in tow
While Humbert remembers the feel of his gun.

If I could pause at .0021 seconds,
And look with long-lashed eyes,
Has this woman made her appearance,
Or am I too small for the prize?

Hands reach for never-
Ending ropes; press play if you’d please.
This girl has a life to live,
This girl’s got the world to seize.
