We just got a new chest freezer from my mom for $50 to alleviate the fact that our freezer is packed. Moving stuff around, I noticed how much jam we have. This summer I went out the first day of strawberry season and we ended up with 5 jars of jam. I got some chokecherries from my mom and made 5 more jars of chokecherry jelly. My mom gave me two jars of cooked strawberry jam. She also gave me a jar of plum jam last month from these little reddish plums that grow in her yard. My sister gave me a jar of hawthorne jam at thanksgiving (it's good, but doesn't go well with peanut butter). I met my dad this past weekend and he gave me a huge jar of seedy blackberry jam. There's also a little jar of gooseberry jam that I bought up north, and we got some peach jam for thanksgiving for my dad to put on his vanilla ice cream. It seems that I got and made raspberry jam at some point in september, which I don't even remember.
After what we've given away and eaten, we still have 13 jars of jam or jelly floating around. We go through maybe one a month. I heard recently that most people don't have more than a week of food in their house. I still have 20+ lbs of jasmine rice in my closet. We have maybe a month's worth.
