RIP Francisco Di Giancarlo, Lead singer of Banco del Mutuo Soccorso
I had learned earlier today that he had died in a car crash. It is funny who affects you emotionally sometimes. Back in 2001, at the end of one of the greatest NEARFests ever, [b]Banco del Mutuo Soccorso [/b] was headlining the last day. At the time, I hadn't heard a note of their music outside of an instrumental cover of one, and didn't understand how they could be better than the [b]California Guitar Trio[/b].
Once I heard Francisco sing, I understood.
His voice is sweet, full and beautiful. It is the kind of voice that brings tears of joy to my eyes. Their performance was one of my top concert experiences in my life, and pretty close to a religious experience for me. Unfortunately, I missed them when they came back for NEARFest in 2008, something I deeply regret.
I may have never understood a word he sang, but the emotion always came through. RIP Francisco.
