Rose was not so quick down the stairs. While losing Castiel hadn't fazed her much, Buffy's disappearance was an outright kick to the stomach. She didn't have many girlfriends- only Shareen, and Rose hadn't seen her since landing in Pete's World. Buffy meant a lot... and the Slayer probably wasn't coming back ( ... )

Nodding his head, he offered Rose a bright smile and took a deep inhale, just so he could refresh his lungs. Running and actually feeling tired? That was one of those things he'd just have to learn to get used to. Much like sleeping 8 hours, remembering to eat and living in linear time.

Really, who actually enjoyed seeing events in their correct times? It was boring as anything and nothing seemed to be happening!

"Perfectly fine. Just, you know, brisk walk down here took my breath away," Pulling his hands from his pockets, he crossed them over his chest and carefully inspected Rose. She seemed happy on the outside but he wasn't that easily fool, smiles could be faked and happiness could be forced.

After all, she'd seemed much more down on the weird book-video-magic-journal thingy. Speaking of which, he made a mental note to quiz Rose on what she knew about the odd equipment in this place.

"So, missing room-mate? I'm sorry, really, are you ok?"

"Bein' an ape ain't so easy, is it?" Rose asked with a smirk.

She had predicted that John would see right through her, but the ruse had been worth a shot. "Eh. I'm takin' it better than I did when ya- I mean, when The Doctor left. Tried t' tear the bloody 'ouse apart, then." The girl immediately wondered if her sadness over the original Doctor would hurt John. "Not tha' I'm not glad you're' ere!" she quickly added.

Rose crossed her arms, mirroring the Metacrisis. Her voice quieted as she returned to the real subject. "Everyone jus' leaves."

He was kind of used to being second best to the Doctor, he both loathed and envied the man he once was and how much it would take to try and get out of his shadow. It would be hard to ever separate himself from the Time Lord and sometimes he wondered what Rose actually thought of him. Though sometimes he was happy just to not know at all.

"I'm sorry he left you again, I'm sure he had a reason. I'm sure he intended to come back eventually. He'd never just up and leave, would he?"

Not without explaining or saying goodbye, he knew himself well enough to know that if he'd found a way out, he wouldn't of left without telling Rose. Why would he? "So how many left then?"

"A lot o' these people wouldn' jus' up an' leave. Makes me worry tha' somethin' worse is goin' on, like the buildin' is takin' 'em or somethin'."

The Companion shifted uncomfortably. "I dunno 'ow many are left, actually. I used t' keep track, but I kinda got sick o' bein' the welcome wagon." She didn't like how bitter she was sounding. Rose Tyler was supposed to be a streak of sunlight, not... whatever this was. "Weren't you an' Sherlock makin' a list?"

"We got sidetracked on a quest to find Sam, couldn't find him, and no one would really, you know, open their door to us. I jotted down a few names and stuff when I got back, I wrote up who lived in what room from what I could gather from others. Its somewhere under the bed."

Along with everything else he'd gathered on his travels and tossed under his bed. Really, it was all just under there. "I have no idea whose gone and more people are arriving, I really need to update it but I think its a bit of a futile effort."

If everyone was just coming and going, how could he even try to keep track?

Rose scrunched her nose. Why was Sam so bloody popular all of a sudden?

"Careful," she teased, "The beds 'ere ain't bigger on the inside like the TARDIS. You'll run outta room!" She'd help him, but Rose wasn't the most organized person, either. Her desk at Torchwood was a wreck.

"Yea, updatin' it all migh' be impossible," she admitted. "I'm glad ya found a mate in Sherlock, though. He seems jus' your speed."

"I've already run out of room and I'm trying my beast not to shove all my stuff into Maxwells side, I don't think he'd be as happy," Clicking his tongue, he started off down the garden, assuming Rose would just follow him, it was how they'd always been and he didn't do it on purpose, his mind just didn't think of them as any different as to when they were travelling.

"Sherlock? Have you met him? Can you believe a fictional detective is here? How brilliant is that?"

Grinning dorkishly, he practically bounced at his own excitement, he did love meeting his heroes, even if they usually let him down in some manner or another. "Though he thinks I'm his sidekick. Can you believe that? How am I a sidekick?"

For a second, Rose stood there as John walked away. Oh, right, the Companion thing! It had been a while. Blonde hair bouncing, she trotted to catch up, just in time to share a laugh over Sherlock Holmes.

"SO brilliant. Oo! 'as 'e said anythin' is elementary yet? I want Sherlock t' say, 'tha's elementary, my dear John Smith!'" Rose's reaction had been almost identical when meeting Queen Victoria. The girl was amazing when it came to alien cultures, but lost a bit of reverence around historical figures... or fictional ones, in this case.

"What? No! No, no, no. Not yet anyway but I don't think he does, he doesn't even wear that hat-thingy. With the flaps. But he's definitely interesting."

Plus fictional, always kinda brilliant to go meet a fictional character, even if he was a bit different and hard to keep up with. Which was saying something when it came from the Doctor-- or more his clone. Regardless, he was happy enough to fanboy over fictional characters as long as it made Rose smile. He hated to know that something had made her so sad and with disappearances all the time, he had to be weary.

"You'll have to try see if you can get him too. If so, I'll give you a tenner."

Rose wasn't about to fall for that. "Noooo, no," she replied, "Tha' stunt got us banished last time!"

It was nice to be laughing with The Doctor... but that was the entire problem. Any time she got sentimental, it wasn't John she was thinking of, it was The Doctor. Whether or not he had the same memories, he wasn't the same man. Rose hoped that they'd start making their own memories soon. Her current methods weren't fair.

"Why are we outside, anyway? Ya got a plan?"

Damn, he rather thought that would be funny, Humans were so much fun to talk into doing misdeeds for him. Course, he tried his best not to play games too much, after all, he was human himself now.

"Well, we're outside cause fresh air is always good. I was think that sometimes its best to distance yourself from the problem and the problem happens to be a very big house we can at least avoid this evening."

Course he had a few ideas in mind for what they could do to take Roses mind of the whole thing. Slipping his hands into his pockets, he peered around the garden before taking a left. He and Sherlock had found the maze far too easy so that was out but perhaps he could make his own fun.

Rose looked back toward the house at its mention. It was gigantic and looming- hard to ignore. The building cast sprawling shadows across the lawn as the sun began to lower. If John's goal was to have her forget it for a while, though, she would sure try. Rose turned away, focusing on the garden instead.

Again, the Companion noticed something off about the foliage. Patches of brush were widening. Certain plants were too tall. It all looked just a bit more wild than it had even a few days prior. The landscapers, whoever they were, had to be slacking!

Her dark eyes spotted a stand of four trees nearby. "'ey!" Rose pointed. "Ya ever climbed one o' those?"

John turned his head at the trees and raised an eyebrow before chuckling to himself. Oooh, now that brought back memories. "One month ago, your brother was in a 'climbing phase' as your mom put it. He went up a tree at the park and you lot elected me to get up there, I swear that vote was rigged anyhow. Very difficult to get a grip an'all, kept slipping and the bark ruined my shirt."

Course, tumbling from a tree twice before finally snagging the toddler had rather put him off climbing tree's for a while, he'd never been that into as well. Not that he didn't mind climbing if he had too, it just tended to end badly.

Still, he eyed up one of the bigger tree's before shrugging and eyeing it up with a small smirk. "Alright then, I bet I can get to the top of that tree before you can get to the top of that one?"

Rose smiled. Even though she missed Tony deeply, hearing about her baby brother always made her grin. "'e's a Tyler through and through," she declared. "Went through a jumpin' phase, myself."

That childhood phase was what had inspired little Rose's mum to sign her up for gymnastics. She had won the bronze back then, and was quite sure that she could beat the Human Doctor up a few branches now. He didn't even know how to pace himself when running!

Rose offered no verbal reply. Instead, she was already sprinting, getting a head start on John into the trees.

"You Tylers and your bloody phases," John mumbled under his breath with a small roll of his eyes. He wasn't going to climb up after Rose if she got stuck. His job was to help protect the world, not save wayward Tylers and their odd little phases!

Turning his head to remark something to Rose, he realised she was not at his side any more but running for the tree. Oooh that was cheating! "Oi!"

Running across the park, he dashed across to the tree and only just managed to catch up with Rose. Course, running as fast as he could always led to exhaustion. Yet he never put two and two together, he just did it. Some habits were very hard to break. Bracing himself on the side of the tree, he gripped the first strongest branch and started to haul himself up it
