House MD Review: Not Cancer

Again, it's an inital reaction.

After the depressing season opening, this episode was a breath of fresh air. We still have House and Wilson angst, but in minute doses.

The most interesting development is, of course, the detective (who's name I'm blanking on at the moment). By the end of the ep he's established himself as a viable Wilson stand in (READ: Stand-in, not replacement). He doesn't exactly enjoy talking to House, but the money and interest factors are too good to pass up. It'll be interesting to see their relationship develop--not to mention the character is a lot of fun.

Major questions did arise in the brief scene with Wilson. When House agreed that they weren’t friends, and thus he could do whatever he liked, Wilson looked genuinely hurt. This bodes well--if he hurts, he still feels. If he feels, things can move forward at some point.

I'm thinking Detective Man will play a role in getting those two back together. I don't mean 'set them up to eat at the same place' type schemes, but perhaps jealously will effect Wilson's decisions--House moved rather quickly in finding a new epiphany jump-point. Or this could prove to Wilson that House isn't quite as screwed up as he claims--he's able to form relationships with other people.

In either case, I'm feeling a bit more hopeful about wherever this is going.

P.S. Anyone else love when random Doc thought House was gay? :D
