FIRSTLY: I want to apologise for not commenting on any of these recaps before! I've read them all ever since we became friends, but I've always been in a situation where I haven't been able to respond. So I will attempt to make up for that now. (In this requiring-of-two-comments comment).
"This is great. This is fitting." I have a very strange love for that line.
I swear to God, I could listen to the two of them say each other’s names in different ways for hours and hours, like some weird acting class exercise, and be perfectly happy. TOTALLY AGREE GOSH. There are so many different ways that they manage to say each others names! I do especially love anxious!Mulder screaming "SCULLLAYYYY!", though, like in this scene.
“I debated whether to even tell you in person.” Yeah, that phone call would’ve gone really well, Scully. AHAHAHA. That line always seemed very strange to me. How could she not tell him in person? Seriously. "Hi, Mulder, just calling to say I'm leaving. Thanks for the past five years, kthanxbai".
I love how, after she leaves, he stands there for a second, kind of getting his courage up before walking after her. One of my favourite parts! There's no way he could just let her go, but it's lovely how he does this.
Like she was already playing this out in her head on the drive over and now it's starting. I like that idea. :D
Mulder's speech may be my favourite thing ever. And you're right, whatever she was expecting, and argument or whatever, it certainly wasn't this. Her face changing throughout the scene is wonderful to watch. And I totally know the scene off by heart and like to say it out loud in my head during the scene.
HIS ARMS...are the most perfect arms that ever armed. Also, when she presses her face into his chest, I imagine that he smells really nice. I have to admit, the arms do hold most of my interest at this point. YUM. And I agree about the smell! Especially with that shirt, which is one of my favourites. Mmmm.
I say lips are touching. Me too. :)
I love how he immediately apologizes, assuming that the kiss has been a miscalculation, but I love even more that she says “No,” immediately. Like, “No, don’t apologize for that! I wasn’t interrupting that!” MY FAVOURITE PART BY FAR. MAYBE EVER.
Here’s the deal, though. Why would they need to do THIS to take away “that with which he cannot live without”? Ahaha, I knoooow. Like you said somewhere else in here, 'don't think!' This movie is marvelous if you don't try to understand the plot. Because I don't get it. At all. How they made it just so complicated, I will never know.
Mulder’s first thought upon waking: “Where’s Scully?” Oh, Mulder.
Since I know from the bloopers that Mitch Pileggi is actually speaking the words to “Greased Lightning,” I SWEAR you can see him mouth “fuel injection cutoff.” I now want to look for this! I love that blooper. :D
Yes, he’s running through the street! Discarding Byers’ jacket! Not nice, Mulder! It looked like a pretty good jacket, too.
This is all very poetic, but good thing Mulder decided to go into the Conspiracy-busting business, and didn’t want to be a dentist or something. That’s a pretty big gamble on old Bill Mulder’s part, isn’t it? LOL CAN YOU IMAGINE. "Dad, I want to be a dentist". "What? You were supposed to uncover the truth about extraterrestrials! I sacrificed your sister for this, dammit!"
he’s able to immediately track down Scully’s pod. Probably by scent. (Strawberry shampoo, OBVIOUSLY.) I NEVER UNDERSTOOD THIS. There was about a million of those pods, and he goes straight down the row she's in and literally finds her in a minute. I know, I know, don't think. :D
Yum, I love it when he pulls the cap off with his mouth, then discards it with his tongue. He does anything with his mouth and it's ridiculously hot.
He’s dressing her in his extra clothes! And carrying her! With her little sock feet sticking out! I wish I could have seen him dressing an unconscious, naked Scully. I have a feeling it would have been very amusing.
Honestly, the perverse English major in me loves that intention plus action equals kiss. YOU WIN, CARTER. I love how he actually says that in the commentary too, lolol. I'm sorry, but CPR isn't exactly kissing. It is still hot though, dammit! >:( Only them.
Scully says “I saw it.” Yea or nay? I like to think so, but ... I can't really see it. And she doesn't seem to believe it later on (but that is Scully for you. If she starts to believe something during the case, she usually discounts it later. eg. Tithonus, for one).
The way she presses her face into his hair! And then she hugs him until he is not frozen anymore. AWWW.
“Crater Hug” is epic and it makes me get all teary, without fail. Agreed. Amazing piece of music.
“If I quit now, they win.” Scully’s casually trying to jog his memory, like: hey, remember when you said that to me? Right before you were going to kiss me? Remember that? If you wanted to try that again or something... I always loved that. And hated how nothing eventuated. Except the hand-holding, which was really pretty cute.
I actually saw this movie for the first time very recently! Annnnd I did a running commentary when I watched it! So I thought I'd link you, not that you have to look at it (because it's really very incoherant, comprised mostly of capslocks, and I sound high on something. I was high on the adorableness of Mulder and Scully!). But anyway, it is here, if you are so inclined to look.
He does anything with his mouth and it's ridiculously hot. Yes. This.
I always loved that. And hated how nothing eventuated. Except the hand-holding, which was really pretty cute. I know! I mean, come on. Your lips were touching, and then he came to Antarctica to save you. Do I have to draw a "you're in loooove" diagram? (Because I will.) I remember, back in the day, being all, COME ON, you two, TALK ABOUT HOW YOU ALMOST KISSED. SOMETHING! It's cute how optimistic I was back then. But it's actually really frustrating how much their relationship progresses in this movie, only to regress at the beginning of S6.
I actually saw this movie for the first time very recently! Annnnd I did a running commentary when I watched it! I will definitely check it out! And are you a new convert? When did you start watching?
FIRSTLY: I want to apologise for not commenting on any of these recaps before! No need to apologize! I know they're usually pretty crazy-long, and it can be exhausting to properly comment.
There are so many different ways that they manage to say each others names! I do especially love anxious!Mulder screaming "SCULLLAYYYY!", though, like in this scene. Yes! That's my favorite way he says her name, and my favorite way she says his name would have to be when she's being sort of gently exasperated, and she goes, "Mulderrrrr," dragging the end out. THESE TWO.
There's no way he could just let her go, but it's lovely how he does this. Exactly! I like to think that he knows that he's going to go all out and be completely honest, and he has to steel himself for that, because it's not just going to be, "Hey, Scully, wait a minute, let's talk about this for a second." It's going to be serious business and he knows it.
MY FAVOURITE PART BY FAR. MAYBE EVER. Right? It's just a tiny thing, just one word, but...it's kind of huge. Since it's Scully saying it. To Mulder. To make sure he knows that she isn't trying to duck out of the kiss.
