The “He is one” tag on the kids' backs is a little too similar to “she is me” in "Aubrey," two episodes later.
You mean "Elegy" in S4, right? I thought "Aubrey" involved "sister" or something...

This aired in December 1994. Do you know what's 18 years after that? December 2012.
I always thought it was cool that there were early mytharc connotations in this episode. Don't we hear about Walk-Ins here, too?

I love how they always have complete disregard for group meetings and just act as if they're the only two there.
Oh, me too. Love it. Someone once made a "things I love about XF" picspam (I can't remember who now, of course), and they used a shot from Tempus Fugit and called it "talking in class". LOVE.

Why would anyone design a jacket like that? Don't they know there are children in China who don't have any lapels at all?
LOL God, I love your wardrobe commentary.

Is it just me, or is Scully sometimes a little awkward with kids? She always seems like she's trying too hard. It reminds me of Pam in "Take Your Daughter to Work" day, ( ... )

Damn! You're totally right. I hate when I drop the ball like that! They have "sister" (and "brother") carved on their chests in "Aubrey." And in "Elegy," "she is me" appears a couple of different places, but never (I think) on a body.

Mulder theorizes that the Red Museum people are walk-ins, or at least believe themselves to be.

No, it's not just you! I've always felt that way. I remember I actually upset some Scullyists back in another rewatch community for saying so (not that I care).Whew! I felt kind of bad even suggesting it, like I was somehow betraying Scully. I mean, she definitely tries, but it always comes off as very stilted. It's especially true when Gibson comes back at the beginning of season 8. She talks to him like he's much younger than he actually is. I like to think that, had William actually been around to talk (SOB), she would've talked to him like a tiny adult, instead of this cutesy stuff ( ... )

No worries! I can understand mixing them up. I think Elegy just happens to be fresh in my mind because discussion around it has been going on between some Haven friends and I recently.

Aww, we (Matt, Mike, Amy and I) watched The Truth last night, and I had almost forgotten how much I LOVE the idea of Mulder and Gibson, tooling around out in the deserts of New Mexico together. But you're right, Scully talks to him as though he's as young as he was when they first met him, perhaps even younger. It's strange, since (a) kids generally really hate that, and (b) Gibson cuts right through any and all BS, because, uh, he reads people's minds.

LOL that is such a great description. Of course, I've always felt that, in a lot of ways, Mulder is more the "true" scientist of the pair than the show gives him credit for (in the narrative, anyway). He wants to discover and poke at things, and figure out how and why things work or happen the way they do. Him poking his fingers in goo has always been my favorite embodiment of that.

Yeah, you mean "Elegy" here (or "sister"), but that just proves your point! It's confusing that they use this weird writing device so many times, especially since I don't think it really serves a purpose this time. It makes more sense in the other two episodes.

I…have been rendered speechless by the comically oversized lapels on Scully’s white jacket. On the plus side, they’re distracting me from her hair, the ends of which have been viciously assaulted by a large barrel curling iron.

WOW. That is amazing.

They share an umbrella. It’s adorable how she just walks along, taking for complete granted that he will provide cover from the drizzle.

This is cute, but every time it happens it just makes me think about how wet she must be getting, because the umbrella is so far over her head that at that point it's not doing much for her. But it's okay, because she will put up with it so she can walk right next to him, of course.

WOW. That is amazing.
It may--may--be the worst thing she ever wears.

I refuse to believe this is anything but coincidence. I just can't give them that much credit right now. I can't!
I know! But come on--what if it wasn't?

I thought it might be "Tempus Fugit," but I think it's another one that I'm thinking of.
Zellie says "Tempus Fugit" above, so that's probably right. It's when they're in with the crash investigators, right?

I wish she hadn't. I liked her the way she was before!
I actually wish she had no child skills, but in a way that made her talk to them like miniature adults, big words and all.

And Jim IS right. Although I'd never pick the aquarium.

I know! This was one of the few things I commented on in my rewatch post for this episode (that was before I got all wordy).
Seriously, they're up to her bra. I can't even imagine what it looks like when she sits down.

although in Wisconsin, they’d probably be drinking fake Miller. Molmer? Modler?
Mulder?
I almost went there, and then I didn't. I should trust my instincts.

Fine, it would be cool if it were intentional. But watching season 8, it is hard to consider that a valid possibility.

Yeah, that's right. The caps look right but the transcript seems wrong? Maybe the transcript left out some muttering they were doing? And I thought I made a comment in my rewatch post about the scene I think I'm thinking of, but I didn't for "Tempus Fugit." So I don't know! I guess I could just watch it and see. I really think they do it another time and get called on it.

I actually wish she had no child skills, but in a way that made her talk to them like miniature adults, big words and all.

This seems like it should be very in character for her.

And Jim IS right. Although I'd never pick the aquarium. Me neither. They LET you stay overnight in the aquarium here, so where's the excitement in that? Well, I guess you could pretend to have a rendezvous with ( ... )

I am not even going to tell you how long it took me to figure this out, but the scene I had in mind isn't actually from Tempus Fugit (though they are in the back of the room when they're introduced to the plane crash site team); it's from Elegy:

DET. HUDAK: Hey you in the back! Are we boring you?

Oh man. I remember watching this one. It was mildly disturbing for us with all the meat shots at the beginning. And then the VEGETARIANS from CALIFORNIA. Pshhh.I sort of hate it when media outlets use vegetarianism as a "character trait" of strange people.

Anyway. SURPRISE! Mytharc indeed! Purity Control?! That came out of nowhere. I loved it.

Also? I was thinking the same thing about Scully's hair being attacked by the large barrel curling iron. We just finished disc 5 last night. There were some weird episodes on there: Fear Symmetry and Humbug. And the one where they get all old- where Scully's make-up artist was a master but Mulder's looked like he just wanted to play with latex and spirit gum.

But it turns out that they're the smart ones, since they're the only ones in town not eating the injected meat!

HA. You're so right. That's a really hard episode to watch because of the bad makeup. Whenever you get to the first episode of season seven (I KNOW, that's a long ways off), Mulder has some horrible age makeup again. It's like they dipped his face in potato flakes.

I know they end up being the smart ones, so that is a small comfort. Today just must be my day of vegetarian tirades: see my latest post.

It was hard to watch not only because of how BAD his age make-up looked but because how bad it made HIM look. I like my Mulder young and hott, thanks (or you know, 40 and hott).
