Rewatch Extra: 2x02 The Host

Mulder's listening to a wiretap! While doodling, eating sunflower seeds, poking holes in his Styrofoam cup and playing seed football. I like that he’s being punished in such a mundane way.

He gets all squinty when they open the door to relieve him of his duty. And he has his tie undone.

Mulder has to put on rubber boots with his suit to go down in ( Read more... )

So pretty, so sad, so backlit.
*swoons*
I know, right? Gorgeous.

I'd agree, but the wiretap duty they put him on really IS the Bureau equivalent of mopping floors. Especially for a (former?) expert criminal profiler.
Right, but when he goes to see Skinner, he's bitching about being sent to NJ. At least it's a case, in the field. (And in the end, it IS an X-File. Although I don't expect him to be psychic and know that or anything.)

I think he is a more effective investigator when he's allowed to go off on his own and do his own thing, but like Scully says, he's not even attempting to work within the system in order to get back to where he wants to be. He'd rather screw himself over than follow orders and be told what to investigate. I love that about him, but on the other hand, I just find myself thinking: MULDER! Use your head!

DON'T TEASE. Is it completely sad that I'm convinced what we do get is somehow better? Probably.
No! Not sad! Because as much as I dig the idea of them being cute and normal at Quantico, you can't beat what we got. (Well. Except for a few things at the end.)

I always think immediately of The Host whenever I see that shot. It's a great one. We get a visual recall of it in CBFR, which I also love.
There's also a shot in "Small Potatoes" when we see Van Blundht through a window like that.

Okay, I am sorry, but give it up: when DOESN'T he?
I kept getting surprised by it in this episode! I think I expect the early seasons to be less attractive, generally, but this one is just chock-full of hotness!

AH, okay, I see what you mean. I think it's more the only way Mulder knows of to deal with circumstances being so far out of his control. I imagine he's pretty pissed at everyone (except Scully) at this point, not to mention feeling lost and disillusioned, so he lashes out the only way he can: pointless complaining. I whine a lot, so I can sypmathize, LOL.

Mulder seems to have a habit of, once confronted with a hole, digging himself more deeply into it. Scully does this emotionally (while Mulder does whatever he can to exorcise those particular demons), but Mulder does it circumstantially. If that even makes sense.

There are varying degrees of Mulder hotness. In S1 and S2, he's mostly just puppy dog, little boy cute, with surprising jumps of hotness. But from S3 on, oh dear.
