Rewatch Extra: 1x79 Pilot

Ah, 1993. I really could’ve used this show in seventh grade, which was pretty awful in a nervous breakdown kind of way. It would’ve been nice to have friends like Mulder and Scully living in the TV back then. Alas, I was still watching TGIF on Friday nights. Alas, I was still watching TGIF on Friday nights. (Tangentially, isn’t it strange to think that a major network successfully devoted an entire night of programming to “family” shows? And it was only 15 years ago?)

What's even stranger is that for the longest time I wasn't allowed to watch the last two shows because they were inappropriate or something. ?! I have no idea how I got away with watching The X-Files when I wasn't allowed to watch The Simpsons in high school.

She is also carrying (for the first and last time?) both a briefcase and a PURSE. A purse!

!!! I don't know what to say about that, but I am shocked.

Her hair is bland but normal

I have a little bit of love for the Clarice Starling hair just because I kind of can't believe that they copied it exactly.

Seriously, she’s so happy and carefree. I can’t get over it. She’s randomly smiling at other agents as she traipses through the bullpen, blissfully unaware of her fate.

Doesn't that make you sad, since you've just come off season 9? It makes me sad.

I really, ( ... )

Honestly, over the course of the show, there are WAY more naked Duchovny shots. YAY. This is actually something I've thought about seriously. No, not like that. Well, yes, like that, but in other ways, too. It's really interesting to me, the way she mostly stays covered up and he gets naked at the drop of a hat.Yes, I have thought about this too! In both ways. And I really like that he takes off his clothes more often (again, in both ways, sheesh) because it is the opposite of what usually happens. But on the other hand, if he takes off his shirt, that's much less sexualized than if Scully takes off her shirt. He does take off his pants too, though (which she never does except in this episode, I don't think), and I think that happens almost as often as he removes his shirt. And Scully never wore soaked, extremely thin pajama pants. She is extremely covered up for the majority of the series, although less so by the end (especially when she's running around in hot climates. Wait a minute. Do you think Vancouver had something to do with ( ... )

I think there's a lot that can be said about why it's "okay" for him to be naked but her not to be. I don't know if I'm up to figuring it out right now, but I do agree that it's definitely sexualized in a different way. I feel like this could be a whole meta post, but that's for another day. Until then, I will continue to objectify Duchovny and his naked body.

I am in love with your rewatch posts and now I want you to do them alllll but I wouldn't want to make you sit through, like, "Space" so recently after you experienced the pain of seasons 8 and 9.

Trust me, the temptation is there! But I think I'm going to do a few good episodes from each season.

Maybe you could include some more pictures. I feel that would really add something important to the objectification.

Ha, that's what you say now. We'll see!

Oh, and yes! I agree and I am interested to hear your thoughts on the matter if you ever feel like making a post about it.

I can't think of any other reason he would still have parts of it memorized three and a half years later. OMG NERDS IN LOVE.

YES.

This time stamp confuses me so much that I can't even think about it.

It's so random! Unless that's just when CC was writing it and he looked at the calendar for a date and then never changed it? Because that wouldn't even line up to when they would've shot the pilot.

But they toned down some of the wackiness after the pilot, which leads you to believe that he certainly does carry spray paint with him wherever he goes, JUST IN CASE.

I know! He just rummages around like someone else might while looking for an umbrella in the trunk. Oh, here's my spray paint! I knew it was in here somewhere. You know, I'm mostly glad they toned down some of the wackiness, because at certain times in the pilot, he seems more socially maladjusted than quirky. But on the other hand, I'm down with a guy who thinks he might need spray paint. Be prepared!
