Just for the record, I still think Paul Hamm is the man. He deserves gold no matter what.
Yesterday there was this crazy fire on the mountain behind my house. Some woman's car broke down and then burst into flames. Because it was a really windy, dry afternoon, they spread really fast over the mountain. There were tons of firetrucks on my street, news reporters, 3 helicopters flying overhead and all the neighbors were outside watching it all happen. In the course of an hour my family had taken all the pictures off the walls, packed the baby books and birth certificates in the car, and been ready to leave if the flames got too close.
Chena and I sat on my driveway just watching the fire consume the hills that surround my neighborhood. Thankfully, the wind died down and the helicopters were finally able to control to burning. There was ash in our hair, and it still smells like burnt toast outside. But wow, it was such an intense afternoon, like something out of a movie. Made me realize in a split second what was really important to me. I'll never forget it.
