[Some would call it an act of unflinching selflessness, others, one of great stupidity. Opinion cannot reverse what she has done. Garnet has gone and exchanged her arm (and a great deal of her hair) for her white magic. Unlike others who have been butchered unwittingly, Garnet has knowingly made the sacrifice to regain her healing abilities after ( Read more... )

[Dias emerges from the post office with his lips pressed in a thin line, and perhaps looking a bit paler than usual. He's not nearly as bad off as some - he's only lost a couple fingers on his left hand, which he's wrapped up in the sash he normally keeps tied around his waist; the pale blue shows the blood extremely well - but he's still Not. Happy.

He's gotten his sword back; it's now in its proper place in the scabbard on his belt. But was it worth hindering his ability to use it? He's definitely questioning this.

When he sees Garnet, he stops dead, staring at her for a moment as confusion momentarily eclipses his pain and irritation. He'd - had a dream about someone just like her...perhaps he'd seen her around and his mind had simply chosen her at random? But it can't help bringing him up short, as it was a particularly vivid dream.]

[Garnet stands outside of the post office, performing something of a patrol around the immediate area, on the lookout for more wounded. The young queen has slung a light coat over her shoulders so that her lack of a left arm isn't screamingly apparent. So far, it has stopped passerby from staring, which gives her some peace of mind. She hates causing pity, especially when her current state is a direct cause of actions she has willingly taken ( ... )

[The hair is different - it was long, in his dream - but it's definitely the same girl. She looks distinctly better than how badly off she'd been before, though...which is something of a relief.

He's a little too bemused and trying not to stare to question her request, and he holds out his maimed hand without hesitation. Mind you, he's accustomed to Rena and her healing powers, so a teenage girl wanting to examine and treat his injuries isn't actually a foreign concept at all.] ...do I - know you? [It's asked a bit hesitantly.]

[Her thoughts would have lingered on how mysterious the man seemed to her if she did not have more pressing matters to attend to that required her concentration. His wound is fresh, and oozes blood with the slightest movement. It pools in her upturned hand and drips from between her fingers while she focuses her magic, wills it to manifest warmly, like skin exposed to sudden sunshine. It glows steadily until it builds to a radiance that is slightly blinding, then fades away as quickly as it appeared. His wounds have been sealed by Cura.

Garnet glances up at the man with a furrowed brow, curiosity piqued by his question, even if she doesn't know how to answer it.] I...couldn't say. I feel as if we have met, but that couldn't be. [As she searches her memory, she recalls him being there the night Jecht carried her to the hospital...but that just can't be. It makes no sense.] ...Dias?

[Dias...stares. The healing is pleasant but not in fact shocking, as Rena was able to do very similar things; he grew up with healing magic as a reality in his life. He didn't know Garnet specifically was capable of it, but it's more an interesting note for future reference than anything else.

But he only knows her from a dream. How does she know his name? This is weird even by Mayfield standards.] And you're Garnet. [His eyes go to the coat, looking for her arm. Is it actually broken, he wonders?]

Yes. [This is becoming uncanny. She's certain that the only place she has ever met Dias is in what must have been a dream...So how is it that he also remembers it?

Garnet watches as Dias' eyes stray to where her left arm used to be, and she knows what he's thinking. He must be searching for a cast, some confirmation that her arm was truly broken. She sighs a little sadly, lifting the sleeve of the jacket to reveal that her arm is gone.] ...It was the only way I could get my magic back.

[Dias' eyes widen slightly, and a muscle in his jaw visibly tenses, but beyond that he makes no sign. She's not bleeding, but then - of course she wouldn't be, if she has healing powers. He glances at her.] Was it broken before? [He has to confirm that the dream was accurate, if nothing else.] And...was it worth it?

[Garnet nods an affirmative.] Near the wrist. [She lets the coat fall closed against her slight frame. There's no doubt in her mind now, that something strange has brought both of them together in the form of a shared dream. Would they ever find out why? Did it really matter?] ...Someone I care about very much had lost his hand. I couldn't just stand by; getting my magic back was his best shot.

[Dias shakes his head; he's come to the same conclusion as Garnet by now. More Mayfield weirdness...] Makes sense, I guess. But won't he be upset that you gave up your arm for his sake?

He probably is...though he'd never show it. [Sighs and averts her gaze, pulling a thick handkerchief from an outer coat pocket and wiping her bloodstained hand.] But I...I know it must sound ridiculous of me, but I couldn't let him go. The thought of losing him after everything that's happened just...terrified me.

[Dias understands Garnet's sentiments a bit better than she might expect. Still, he doesn't remark on it, instead looking down at his hand and flexing it; the stumps are healed over now, and he touches them experimentally.] ...thanks.

[Watches him as he looks over his hand, unsure of what to do with the bloody rag. She ends up disposing of it in a trash can.] Of course....I'm very glad I could help.

[Dias glances back at the post office.] ...are you helping everyone that comes out? That's a lot to keep up with.

[Blushes a little and looks bashful, knowing that what she's trying to do is naive and silly.] Well, sometimes I manage to turn them away before they enter. I've only healed about...four people today, counting you.

So long as you don't overdo it, I guess. [Dias studies her briefly.] I grew up with someone a little like you. She had healing powers as well.

[Feeling her legs begin to ache from being on her feet all day, Garnet leaned back on a railing circling the front of the post office. She blinks curiously, gazing up at Dias before gently inquiring:] Who is she?
