You know, I don't think I'll ever fail to be impressed with the ease of communication here. I remember when it would take months for a letter to reach a destination, and now all I need to do is power up my computer and type out my message, and instantly it's at its destination ( Read more... )

Things change over long periods of time, and it never ceases to amaze me. I just step back and find human ingenuity utterly brilliant, what will they do next, I ask myself...

The human need to understand, explore and control their environment is a double-edged sword. It is what makes them a very powerful and intriguing people. I do believe it is the drive to communicate that promotes a great deal of this evolution, it is their need to create and invent objects to express an idea, either for their preservation, or for just for the pleasure of doing it, like music and art...

Technology is just another way of controlling ones way to communicate with their environment...

And it is the right for old men to be amazed by such fantastic developments, it keeps us young, I suppose. Well, in all my 900 years, I still feel giddy thinking about emergence of the human civilization into the technological world..

And sometimes I can't help but wonder if the change is for the best. Humankind is always seeking more, better, and the path that leads us there is often dark and dangerous. As many men fall to the march of progress as are bettered by it.

Words of wisdom indeed. There will always be men who will fall pray to the darker sides of progress and to the darker side of humanity. It is a double edged sword.

I think that all of us, in some way, fall to darkness. Humanity emerged from the darkness, lived in the darkness, and never quite managed to chase it away. And I think it lingers still in each of us.

It's certainly fantastical, Alphonse, I can't argue that.

I can think of no better place to learn - or with more to learn, than here in Desai.

Yes, father, I must agree with you. And to be honest, being here has blessed me with two things, the gift of knowledge, and family.

You've always rambled old man. Though how you're still breathing is a fair question to add. Unless you dodged the same bullet I did. Hello again Dad. By the way you tasted bad.

I agree with that. My world was advanced, but only in the ways of genetics. All of my technological knowledge comes from the fact that my father is an inventor, and taught me how to systematically figure out things.

My biggest thing is how bright this place is.
