Hey guys,
Sorry that I fell off the face of the earth there for a little bit. I have good reasons, I swear. Friday (10/7) I left at noon to go to New York City for the CFA-Iams Cat Championship. The drive there was awful, 14 hours and it should have taken maybe 9 1/2 or 10 at most. There was a lot of rain going on from the remnants of the hurricane, so I found out that people in PA are just like people in Columbus, they act like they can't fucking drive when it starts raining. Dah well. Not to mention there was also some construction and we sat still for about 3 hours of the trip. Then, we finally get to our hotel, a nice little suburb called Elizabeth, NJ, and they have our hotel reservations all fucked up, scheduled for next weekend instead...and they're booked up because all of the flights were cancelled out of Newark. They could have gotten us a hotel room in NYC for oh, about $350 a night. Yeah right. So, they put us up in Somerset, which is almost an hour and a half drive to the city. Don't care at this point, it's late and we still have all of the cats to groom for the show.
We got done grooming everyone about 4am, and were back up again at 6:30, since we had so far to drive and we didn't want to be late. Too bad, we were late anyways. Not to mention that dad got lost on the way to the hall (the show was held at Madison Square Garden). Anyway...we ran around all crazy and got set up, tried to talk to as many people as we could and still get our cats up to the ring on time. Didn't sell one kitten or cat on Saturday. Definately was stressing over that.
We came back on Sunday for the second day of crazyness, there were about twice as many spectators in there as the day before. My little bobtail, Rendai, made one final, and I was really happy about that since the show was so hard. I ended up selling a kitten, mom sold a kitten, and I sold an adult. It could have definately been better, but at least it was something. My cat Tsuya ended up being called to the Best of the Best ring and was best Japanese Bobtail Longhair overall, got a big ribbon and a medalion. I was so proud :) The cats that were Best of the Best were all gorgeous, the runners up were an American Wirehair kitten, a Scottish Fold kitten, and the Best of the best was a stunning Siamese male.
After we got all packed up, we went down to the Bronx and met my sister's fiancee's family, about 15 all together. They are from the Dominican Republic and speak very little English, so it was kind of hard to talk in depth about a whole lot, but they were all super nice and we had a really good dinner. Didn't get back to the hotel until almost midnight.
We left the hotel around noon on Monday, and decided on a different route home since the construction was so bad on the way that we took. Big mistake. In Allentown, PA, part of the road was washed away from all of the rain, so we again sat still for several hours. It took us about 6 1/2 hours to go 95 miles. My ass was so sore from sitting in that damn van!! I didn't think that i'd be able to walk right for a week. I drove from about the middle of PA to Columbus while my parents slept in the back since they still had to drive from my apartment to their house 2 more hours away. I was really tired, so the drive was pretty scary. My little sister and I just talked the whole time, trying to stay awake. We ended getting back to Columbus at 2:30am, so the trip took 12 1/2 hours. Not as bad as going there, but still shitty and way longer than it should have.
I had Tuesday and Wednesday approved off from work, just in case I decided to stay in NYC with my sister for a few days and then get a 1 way plane ticket for the way back, but since I didn't sell enough kittens, I didn't do that. I spent those days recovering from the trip. I was so exhausted. I have a sinus infection now, oh joy.
On a good note, I am home this weekend, so if anyone wants to hang out, let me know. I need to work some since I have very few hours on this paycheck, but I will still have some time for fun. Saturday at 6:30 I am going to the Mest/Social Distortion concert, should be a good time. Let me know if you want to come with.
Another happy note....I got a phone call saying that I was promoted to QA starting Monday. I am very excited for the change. I knew that I could get off of that damn phone, one way or another.
