Summer has arrived.

Goodness, it's been so long since I've journaled.  Last week, Ben was in Virginia at new hire training.  He stayed at some gorgeous, remote estate that had a pool and a view of the mountains.  He had a blast. :)  Taking advantage of his already being in the DC area, I flew down on Friday to meet him and we stayed at the home of some friends (for the record, Jess, Ean, and Anna's) in Takoma Park.  We visited the Air and Space Museum, met Alexa for lunch on U street at an Ethiopian place, checked out Busboys and Poets Cafe, visited the Museum of Natural History, and the Washington, FDR, and Jefferson Memorials/monuments.  We headed back, with the plan of getting off the Metro at Silver Springs and walking back to Takoma Park.  By the time we got off the train, it was raining (a lot.), and then we got lost.  We were wet, hungry, blistered, and tired.  We didn't know how to get into downtown Takoma, so we had to walk back the Jess' house, then go into town from there.  It was still raining and I was particularly surly.

Well, it ended up being worth the effort getting into town. We had dinner at this great new pizza place called Roscoe's.  The server was fabulous--he immediately brought us each two big napkins to sop up our dripping selves with.  Ben got the Pesto Chicken panini and I got the mushroom, red pepper panini--they were both terrific.

Sunday was a bit more laid back. It included a walk into town to the farmer's market, where we tried Quark, homemade cheese, and peaches and lusted after all of the beautiful, fresh things we'd buy if we didn't have to carry it all to the plane.  We also checked out the co-op---another great little place!

The flight home was pretty uneventful, though it ended up being delayed by almost 2 hours.  We, after a considerable amount of waiting, were able to catch the last trains home, and popped off the orange line just in time to be caught in a thunderstorm.  We ended up getting in around 1:30 or so.

This week has been slow at work, which has been wonderful in many ways.  Ben and I are both still behind on sleep, something I'm hoping to remedy tonight.  Mom and Dad are coming this weekend! I'm so excited to see them--and it'll be fun to show them around a little bit, now that I'm not such a newb to this town.

Some other things to note:
- I have car insurance in Massachusetts, effective August 1! I'll actually be able to register the car soon!
- We're getting a futon! And more chairs!
- Both Ben and I have been experiencing serious technical difficulties - internet, video card, firefox shutting down spontaneously, monitors not working. This really stinks. A lot. Grrrr.
- Camy sent an amazing array of homemade jam--yumm!
- I went to the dentist last week and have to have cavities taken care of. Booooo.  They even commented on how well I take care of my teeth...I guess some mouths are just more hospitable to those silly bacteria. I'm just wondering when all of these unexpected expenses are going to stop popping up.
- I'm close to finishing my med school applications.  I'm feeling panicky that I haven't submitted them yet.
- It's hot and muggy here.  No fun for running or sleeping, but definitely a nice change from the rainy cold of June!

Woohoo Thursday!  Two more days of work, and then the weekend with Mom and Dad!
