Mizumachi Kengo (水町健悟)

Canon infomation:
As do all main teams in a sports manga, the Deimon Devilbats in Eyeshield 21 have to overcome rival teams for each game, and one of these teams is the Kyoshin Poseidon. This team's sudden rise in excellence was due to the switch to tall players, one such ace being the "evolving genius" Mizumachi Kengo.
Innocent, passionate, confident, with just a dash of arrogance - this is Mizumachi in a nutshell. Mizumachi never aims for second best; why go for second when you can be first? Once he sets his sights on a goal, he'll work insanely hard towards it (eg. training in an outdoor pool in dead winter for a swimming competition). All he ever really wanted was a team who shared his motivation. Finally, he found it in Kakei and the football team Kakei attracted him into. It's safe to assume that Kakei and Mizumachi are now good, if not best, friends.
Of course, like every good ace, Mizumachi has Issues, partly caused by his extremely gullible nature. Tell him you're the King of England and he may very well believe you. Thanks to his former place in the swim team, he also has a tendency to take off his clothes, usually when he sees large bodies of water.
Skills and Power:
SWIMMING. One thing Mizumachi's extremely proud of, outside of his football skills, is his ability to perform an amazing 50m freestyle. He even developed a move for football called the Swim, where he'd swing an arm out like he would in freestyle and shove his opponent away with the other. His starting run mimics a dive off a platform too. Mizumachi's apparently not that strong; he puts more emphasis on his height and techniques.
List of Friends and Foes:
Kakei Shun (Teammate, friend)
Oohira Hiroshi (Teammate)
Oonishi Hiroshi (Teammate)
Kobanzame Osamu (Teammate, Captain)
Deimon's Komusubi (Lineman rivalry)
Swimming team (I'm just including this group since I doubt Mizumachi ever wants to see them again)
Basic information
Ditto on what Kakei said about wikipedia. It shows Mizumachi in a very negative light, so let's see if I can map out this boy a little better. Going to organise this baby around wiki's comments!
Wiki: "Was on the swimming team but quit due to the lack of challenge"
Mizumachi was deemed as a sports genius the minute he entered Poseidon High School. Sports clubs were all clamouring in hopes of getting him on their team, but the one team that cinched it was the swim team. Not because Mizumachi showed any particular keen interest in swimming at that point (he couldn't even swim yet), but because the team chose to play the sympathy card and lied that their team would be scrapped without Mizumachi.
So Mizumachi trained and trained and trained and finally won the gold medal for a swimming tournament just one year after he joined. Instead of celebrating or joining Mizumachi to work towards the nationals, the team gathered to inform Mizumachi,
"You're weird. To tell the truth, we can't take matching up to your standards anymore."
It really wasn't the lack of challenge that made Mizumachi quit, so much as the crushing disappointment he had in his teammates. One, they lied to him; two, they had no motivation, no high goals, nothing; three, they essentially implied that they couldn't work with Mizumachi simply because he worked too hard. Clearly, the poor kid got traumatised in the head.
Then he met Kakei, whose conviction and determination for nation-wide top led him to Poseidon's football team. PTSD averted!
I think it was Rey who mentioned in the voting post that the canon sections of our apps sound like these two could be slashed together in doujin and such. Ahaha. Might relationship essay at some point, but not now.
Wiki: "He has a bad habit of saying inappropriate and insensitive remarks."
Mizumachi has a "motormouth", and tends to speak his mind without thinking. However, he never means to offend anyone. If he does, it's highly likely that he won't even realise that he just did, or after being informed, why what he said was so wrong. (Sort of like hugging Kanda. Mizumachi still doesn't get why that's bad, besides the fact that he could've died.)
Basically, Mizumachi has two faces. He's either the idealistic happy-go-lucky little puppy that's running around you in circles, or he's sitting near your feet, ready to nip at your ankles if need be. Most of the time, he's doing the running. Also, one tiny note: Mizumachi isn't stupid. Rly. Just extremely malleable in every sense of the word.
Don't hurt him too much, people. XD
