RIP Tarlton Heston

Charlton Heston is dead, so that can only mean one thing: time for an FFXI LJ update. To honor the great leading man I punched the shits out of some damn dirty tigers this morning on my MNK. I'd never done tigers in Waojam before but it was pretty sweet, at least 8k per hour. The RDM was a fucktard but he "DCed" after like 3 mobs and we replaced him immediately, so no one really cared. I got level 60 so more than halfway to 75 now-- at least I can do Campaign for shitty xp when I'm bored.

I solo'd the MNK AF3 NM with NIN/DNC on Monday-- took about 40 minutes. It was a lot easier than I expected, though I had to fight repops and lose target every 15 minutes which was a little annoying. I'm sure I don't need to tell you that NIN/DNC is awesome, but the real reason I like it is because it isn't NIN/WHM which I always hated. It's like the best of /THF (sans TH) and the best of /WHM rolled into one.

My love for leveling subs and new jobs is at odds with both my wallet and the current merit system. While I get that the idea behind the merit system is to encourage (force?) players to specialize in certain jobs (at least with regard to combat skills), my specialization changes frequently as I discover new things and depending on the gear that I am able to get. It is going to kill me, but at some point I want to lower my (capped)Marksmanship and (5x)Katana merits in favor of hand-to-hand (I kind of feel obligated to after investing in BB). That's what-- 200,000xp lost? Ridiculous. I'd gladly wait a month to get a refund on my merits to keep the system balanced, but yeah, SE isn't that smart or fair (or they'll add that option 6 months after I lose all the XP). My lowering Marksmanship isn't because I am giving up Ranger though; more that lately I've realized that Bow completely blows it away in most situations. Hellfire+1 has been a disappointment-- for the life of me I can't get my slugs to beat my winders, even with 5 more merits in Marksman.
