breaking dawn, epic fail

Finished Breaking Dawn O_o

First of all, I felt like I was reading a hopeful fanfic on how everyone wanted the Twilight series to turn out. It was too perfect. So, naturally, I hated it. Marriage, a baby, the baby being good, Jacob falling in love with Nessie, Bella not having any problems of a newborn, Charlie knowing about werewolves and vampires so he can stay in the picture, a fake out doom-filled ending which was really a Happily Ever After in disguise, no serious characters dying, everyone being together forever. Like I kept texting to my friends: SO. LAME. I haven't read an ending that awful in a very, very long time. Breaking Dawn wasn’t real writing to me, for all the reasons I just listed. No one, author, fans, or characters, had to sacrifice anything.

Other comments I had throughout the novel:

*Serious need of condensing/editing. It was very difficult to tell the editor side of my personality to stfu.

*So...Jacob just stopped loving Bella? Oooooh-kaay. That’s absolutely believable.

*Did Jake imprint on Bella first? Cuz the way that Meyer wrote the scene, it seems like he did, and then the tie broke when she died, re-directing the bond to Nessie.

*He imprinted on Bella‘s baby. How cliche, how unoriginal. Very serious letdown.

*Nessie freaks me out. I didn’t like her character. She seemed like too much of a stretch.

*Rose? I understand that, because of her history with wanting the perfect life, that she'd gravitate towards Bella and the baby. But...her attitude just seemed so out of character. We never really saw anything of her in previous books, and all of a sudden she dominated this book. Just..strange.

*Actually, a lot of characters felt strange. Bella, Jake, the pack, even Charlie. The voices weren't the same, the mood and atmosphere felt...it didn't feel like Twilight. Too many adult-like things going on, for characters who have always felt very un-adult-like.

*I agree with Tiff, that Jacob's section was the most interesting, though I didn't expect him to tolerate Bella's death as well as he did. I'm very pro-Jacob (werewolf/shape-shifter biased), but I didn't understand the necessity of having to switch POVs. If you're going to have the novels be from Bella's POV, keep them all from Bella's POV. We'll still understand Jacob's pain even if it's not from his mind.

*I did like Edward in this book. Like I said, I'm very pro-Jacob, but I never had anything against Edward. I think he was the most true to character throughout the book. The most believable, consistent character throughout the series.

sigh.

At least the movie's been pushed up to Nov. 21st. And now I don't have to avoid the internet, anymore. :)
