Worlds and worlds away, there was a beginning. The beginning of a new world, great people, historic events, and of course, an ending. One of the things that many people never truly accept is that there has to be an ending, just as there has to be a beginning. This beginning, however, was not like any other. It foretold of many adventures, incredible people, all destined to be forgotten unless someone was there to sing their song. So here I am, ready to sing the song of a world, of the people, of the planet of Kau'i Lani.
Created by sciences, blessed by the spirits, Kau'i Lani had no choice but to become a great planet, to live through out the ages, maintaining a paradise, a haven. At times, it was polluted, filled with havoc, in others, the very epitome of heaven. As a child develops, so did Kau'i Lani, going through the same rebellious stages, then finding what it's purpose was and attempting to fulfil that purpose before the clock ran out and the winds of time took Kau'i Lani to create something else, perhaps better.
It began in a black, endless place, not even illuminated by the stars, filled with a bitter coldness. In the far distance, there were other places, other things, other stars, but so far, that nothing could be seen by the bare eye. Sensing that this cold had gone on for far too long, the Gods and Goddesses decided to fill in the blank spot on their masterpiece. Taking the golden sands from Kailohia and the caressing winds from Mahina, the clear blue skies, the warm, gentle water, the vivid fragrances of flowers, then young Goddess Mahina took it upon herself to make Kau'i Lani the most perfect place, suitable for all creatures.
If had been viewed by anyone, the creation of Kau'i Lani could very possibly be one of the most beautiful things ever witnessed. The colours borrowed from neighbouring galaxies swirled together, making a radiant, neutral colour, undescribeable. It wove in tid bits of the darkness of the sky into the water, letting a thin skin of the darkness rest on water at night, to give the creatures of Kau'i Lani a taste of the gloriousness of the dark after most of the dark had been luminated.
Pleased with her creation, Mahina realized there were still a few things left for her to do. She called upon her husband, Kopaka, for help, asking him how and what she should create the beings that would live on her creation. With a smile, he picked up a clump of the freshly made mud, and let it fall into her hands. Taking another piece, he began shaping it, modeling it after his wife. When he was done, he showed it to Mahina.
“This is our child and a child of Kau'i Lani. Take care of it as you would a child of our own and it will break out of it's shell and reveal itself. Once Hoku has been born, she will tell you what to do.”
Curious why Kopaka had only made a female, Mahine took the piece of mud Kopaka had given her, and made a figurine, but instead, modeled it after him. She took both Hoku and Ikaika and shaped a cave out of the ground for them to live in. For months, they did not move so Mahina instead bathed them in healing waters daily and surrounded them by luscious fruits. One night, as Kopaka returned from his journey to create a planet of his own, he found that Mahina had made an island on Kau'i Lani especially for them and made a bed of the softest sands and most luxurious leaves, lit only by the radiant stars Mahina had created.
That night, the beginning truly began. As Mahina and Kopaka made love, Ikaika and Hoku awoken, breaking out of their shells. Seeing as they were the only ones there except for Kopaka and Mahina, Hoku and Ikaika decided to venture out of the cave and see the world with their own eyes. Completely untouched, the world shone before them, inviting them to roam and see the glorious places Mahina had created for them. Seeing Kopaka and Mahina's island, Ikaika and Hoku decided to swim out to them, to see if there were others.
When they reached the God and Goddess, they were surprised, expecting to see people like themselves, instead of the barely visible, radiating figures. Mahina laughed, pleased to see that her and Kopaka's creations had awoken and were just as beautiful as the land she had created for them. With skin as dark as the mud they had been created with and hair that imitated the darkness that had been filled to created Kau'i Lani, they were more beautiful than Mahina had even expected. Realizing that Hoku and Ikaika would get lonely, Mahina asked Kopaka to help her create more of these people. He agreed and they started to work, letting Hoku and Ikaika rest while they worked. They worked until the sun rose the next morning and even after it set, creating rows and rows of the clay figures, each next to it's partner.
