Twin Zero

Finally got my career development loan forms completed and sent off with various forms of ID, a pound of flesh and a piece of my soul. For the record; I hate banks. And paperwork. The two combined is a personal hell for me. I just hope to god they approve the loan, otherwise I can forget about college for another year. And while 23 is still young, it's considered a bit old for starting University. That's what comes from a gap year after A-levels turning into 5.

Nothing else I can think of worth reporting. For those that read, anyway.

More free music for you, although some will have this anyway. Didn't get much of a response to the Sunna album, although bits and pieces through AIM or MSN. This time it's my favourite new band, Twin Zero. From their site:

" 'Monolith' is a monster of a record - with the almost 20 minute title track being a compelling listen with its twists and turns layered with Karl Middleton's (earthtone9, The Blueprint) exquisite, unmistakable tones soaring and whispering throughout.

In fact, critics are already claiming 'Monolith' is easily Middleton's best performance to date. What started off as a one-man project of guitarist Reuben Gotto as a way of paying homage to some of his favourite bands soon gained interest from others and quickly became a band ready to play live.

'Earthbound' is a seven minute-plus pounding rock giant, while 'Monolith' is 20 minutes of beauty, despair and optimism all under one roof of musical greatness.

'Monolith' was recorded in several home studio locations across the UK, and mixed at Pristine Studios Nottingham with help from Paul Yeadon (Murder One). It's been a long time coming but the results are more than satisfying. In the two years Twin Zero has evolved, its membership now boasts a strong line up including two live drummers for optimum sonic assault to the eardrums! A number of low key gigs have been played to date - including shows with Boston's 27 and St Albans metallers SikTh. The names of musicians involved in the Twin Zero collective may sound familiar, but the music won't!

Prepare to be blown away.

Twin Zero is:

Karl Middleton - vocals
Reuben Gotto - guitars / vocals
Dave Cheeseman - keyboards / vocals
Bing Garcia - guitars / vocals
Anf Morfitt - bass
Ben Calvert - drums
Simon Hutchby - drums"
For me Twin Zero is one of the most important bands to come out of the UK this millenium. OK we're only 5 years into the millenium, but with lackluster and bland retro garage bands dominating the alternative scene, or metal by numbers rehashes, Twin Zero offer something unique and interesting, a high level of musicianship whilst realising the importance of subtlety, and a balance of beauty and brutality. Imagine the scope of Tool with the balls of Will Haven, ... prog for the armageddon generation. But for best results, listen to this in order, start to finish, as this is an opus that should be listened to in one sitting. Right click and save target / link as ...
