091127 - Press Conference at Siam Paragon
Note: If there are slight discrepancies in my fanaccount I apologise, I am writing this completely from memory and I might have remembered a couple of things wrongly, or I might have been distracted and glossed over it unintentionally.
In a short summary: The press conference was crazy, insane, and totally fulfilling.
I went to Siam Paragon at about 12pm, Bangkok time, since my friend June had managed to get an extra press conference ticket for me to get in, and I had to register and all. My ticket number was originally 1128, which considering there was only 3000 tickets in total, was a pretty good ticket, in the middle of the standing area.
However there were a few scalpers selling tickets which were overpriced as hell, and my friend (
keira_cat) was willing to buy one for 1000 baht (around 30USD, 42SGD) and the ticket number was 0045. First row. Standing section.
And she gave the ticket to me and took my ticket.
June bought for me a 12plus cologne set (all 12 bottles) and the BB powder and I... I was pretty touched that she'd actually give it to me as a gift, having known her for probably less than a month or so in total? But she really is a sweetheart and she helped me to sort out a couple of problems with my SS2 tickets.
Anyway. I went into the hall at about 4.30pm Bangkok time and I got a place near the right hand side of the stage, just in between the gigantic screen on the right for the VCR and where Eunhyuk was sitting at during the entire press con. It was a pretty good position and thre was quite a bit of jostling around and stuff but I didn't really move from that position. My legs started throbbing close to 5.30pm; standing for an hour with people pressed against you isn't exactly one of the most comfortable positions ever. There was a lot of groping and hair pulling and stuff that happened during the press con and I think the barrier nearly collapsed on me/my row, there were so many fangirls pressing against the barrier that they had to get more people to reinforce the barriers and prevent them from toppling over. The screens keept playing the ad for Super Show 2, the 12plus products ads, the Yamaha Fino CFs and ads from the other sponsors.
The press con officially started only at about 6.20pm with the lights dimming and announcements and stuff but I didn't bother listening because it was all in Thai. The screaming started then though and the press con started at 6.30pm. The emcees came out and then there were 3 local groups that did a couple of dance performances - Neorago/A Man in Love for the first group; Sorry Sorry/Don't Don for the second group; and Neorago/Sorry Sorry remix for the last group. I was surprised by the talent of the groups, I really enjoyed the performances, even though the Thai ELF did all the fanchants; which I didn't really participate in because I wanted to conserve my energy. The good thing was that they allowed us to bring in cameras; I got a couple of shots but they are with Keira right now, I'll post them when I do get the photos.
After the three groups there was this insanely long section where the MCs talked and the camera panned over the entire crowd of fans inside the hall, it was seriously packed like WOAH. I think I spotted someone with an SJ-World towel but I can't really be sure because they didn't zoom into the picture, and there was someone holding a HanChul lightboard and a lot of banners. I saw someone holding up a Siwon banner that was actually a mosaic of Siwon pictures, it looked pretty impressive. I think for my section, or rather where I was standing there were a lot of Eunhyuk fans and quite a number of Petals, the girl I was standing next to was a Kyuhyun fan I think, even if she didn't speak English she was wearing a Kyuhyun shirt.
I saw Eunhyuk walk out first, but it didn't actually register that it really was Super Junior coming on the stage. It was only until somewhere near the middle of the line up (I think it was either when Heechul or Donghae walked out onto the stage) that it actually finally registered on me.
Super Junior is real. And I'm seeing them live for the first time ever.
My instinct was to scream. Long, loud and really 100% all out shrieking. It's different, I think, when you see your idols for the first time, in the flesh, since you've become so accustomed to seeing them on TV and in photos and videos on Youtube but really seeing them live, it's... something that cannot be described.
The order they were in was from left to right, Shindong, Ryeowook, Donghae, Kyuhyun, Yesung, Leeteuk in the second row, standing; in the first row, also from left to right, was Sungmin, Heechul, Han Geng, Siwon, Eunhyuk. Kangin wasn't present at the press conference.
They had a Korean-Thai translator and there were a lot of questions asked but I didn't really pay attention to it, I was busy looking at all the members and taking a lot of photos from the screen since they were too far for me to zoom into. And now looking back to what I saw at the press con and the photos I took, it's kind of undeniable that the members do look a lot better in real life as opposed to only on photographs and videos. It's like the camera totally does not do them any justice at all. Like Heechul. Heechul is really, really pretty in real life, and he looks so real. Personally, I've found in photographs that Heechul looks too much like a porcelain doll at times due to his makeup and all but really, he looked just amazing in the press con. Leeteuk, Han Geng, Donghae, Eunhyuk and Kyuhyun are some more examples but I don't think I'll go into it that much or this fanaccount will be too long and rambly.
I did notice a couple of things though, and I was discussing with Keira when we both came out of the press conference:
- The SJ-M members were slightly happier and looked slightly more well-rested as compared to the members who flew in from Korea. I think it might have been because they flew in earlier and they had more time to rest, but I don't know. :/
- Shihanchul (and all variants thereof) was everywhere. The three of them seriously could not keep their hands off each other. There were a lot of Shihanchul fans in the hall I think, because there was the constant screaming whenever either two of them held hands, or leaned in to whisper into the other's ears and I was seriously looking like :D :D :D because they are my OT3 and they are so perfect ;~;
- I think I managed to catch Hangeng's attention because I waved to them when they were looking around, while the MCs spoke in Thai and he waved back at my general direction. It seriously seriously made my entire night.
- There was a lot of fanservice going on. Shindong, Sungmin and Donghae were goofing around by themselves in their own little corner, and it was pretty adorable. There was a Cinhae moment I was extremely happy about! :D :D :D Donghae leaned down to whisper something into Heechul's ear and Heechul tilted his head and his lips nearly met Donghae's and I was like as;dklfjas;dfa !!!!!! They were my very first OTP and I love them so much their fanservice was so precious. I only managed to catch that one Cinhae moment so I have no idea if there were any more.
- There was a lot of Kibum/Kangin chanting. Mostly it was just "Kibum Kangin" on repeat, but I couldn't help but notice that Eeteuk's face totally fell when the fans started that and he looked as if he was almost ready to cry. And it was pretty subtle but I saw Yesung and Eunhyuk trying to comfort him and Eeteuk was trying to keep a brave front and my heart kind of broke at that. I only saw it because they caught it on the VCR, if they didn't I probably would have glossed over it.
- Heechul is the skinniest member. I know he's happy about his lost weight but das;lkjf;la he is still so skinny, even his leather(?? it wasn't very clear to me) pants looked a little baggy on him. His face was under the mask and he still had his hair from his drama; and he wasn't as highly-energised as compared to the previous Super Shows. But somehow he really has this aura, this stage presence that draws people to look at him, he is just amazing like that and I really love him.
- Han Geng was just really cute. He really fails at languages though, apparently his Thai is incomprehensible because there was a segment where each of them had to say a sentence in Thai. I haven't gone to check for a transcript of what they said at the press con so I wasn't listening to what they said much, just screamed along with everyone else when each member had their turn in speaking. Han Geng's was the only one I knew because he said it once in Thai, the fans got confused, he said it in Chinese and then he said it again in Thai. The fans finally got it after that and he was so cute, his facial expression.
- Sungmin was a lot quieter, and his smiles were somehow really really captivating. It's like Heechul's stage presence on a slightly lesser scale? And Eunhyuk. Eunhyuk. Whoever did his makeup is a genius, because seriously, his makeup was probably the best among everyone else's and his guyliner. His guyliner was one of the hottest things ever.
I think that was pretty much all I noticed, because half the time I was trying not to be trampled by the Thai ELF and the barrier.
I screamed a lot, I came out with my throat dry and in fact I actually waited for the hall to clear out first before going out and looking for Keira and June. I did eventually meet up with them after the press con ended, and I saw quite a large crowd of Thai ELF at the backstage door to the hall, apparently they were going to try and stalk Super Junior when they came out?
Keira and I really didn't bother going to try and join the insane crowd, instead we decided that we were just going to go off because we would see them at the concert the next day anyway.
That was pretty much the very first time I've seen any celebrity up close and they took my breath away. I remember the last emotion I felt that night was nothing but anticipation. I found it hard to eat and drink (my lips are cracked now because of it) and my thoughts were something along the lines of "IT NEEDS TO BE TOMORROW LIKE, NOW."
Part 2 will be up later.
