http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/11/26/nasa-monitors-massive-dust-storm-on-mars/ WOW...just wow. I have a deep fascination for the Red Planet. I find it fascinating that there were three films the Walt Disney Company did in regards to Mars, each had recurring themes of Mars being connected with the Feminine Divine in SOME aspect--John (Oannes?) Carter of Mars (Hieros Gamos; you won't get a better idea of the Priestess-Queen who bestows, with the gifts of her sacred, Goddess-given sexuality, divine kingship upon a chosen man, than Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium!), Mars Needs Moms (and obviously, so does Earth/Gaia...Mother Earth? Goddess as Mother?) and Mission to Mars (for me, the most compelling and heartbreaking of the three; it includes some intense imagery, including a Martian Creator Goddess reminiscent of Neolithic Goddess statues from northern Africa, and even Isis Unveiled!). I find it interesting, most of all, that these three movies failed immensely. While i can understand with Mars Needs Moms, i cannot understand with JCoM and for the life of me i cannot grasp what about M2M was so 'bad'.
I might add that in 2004 the Mars Spirit rover caught this image which is eerily reminiscent of the Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen Harbour...

http://www.npiee.org Apparently, this is a quest going to the Arctic to research the possibility of an "Inner Earth".
I must say i am slightly skeptical on the concept of an "Inner Earth". SLIGHTLY. I realise that the people who make the textbooks and enforce what is taught (outside of fundie Christians and creationists) are the same ones who deny Roswell, ET visitation of Earth, ancient aliens, Atlantis, mermaids, the Sirius Mystery, MK Ultra, etc. And to be fair, i've read some stuff that gives me the heebie jeebies about some of the Inner Earth's denizens (like a man hitchhiking in 1919, who falls asleep and wakes up in 1934, and only decades later, after many nightmares, seeks hypnotic regression...he found he had been kidnapped by short, babbling, gibbering creatures who cut open his head and played brain surgeon...scariest of all, he underwent some medical exams in the 1980s that confirmed that some time in the past, 40 or 50 years before, he had some sort of brain surgery...)
However...not all Inner Earth voyagers encounter the nightmarish horrors of Lovecraftian nature (i don't mean the amphibious mer-deities either!). One man, Will Steger, an Arctic explorer and a passionate advocate for Arctic conservation, went on a sled-dog run with his team, seeking to be the furthest north anyone had ever been on dog sled, in 1986.
While there he encountered a legend who is known to all small kids and a saint among groups like the Lapp, Sami and Inuit...Jultomten.
Here in America most call him "Santa Claus".
I find it fascinating and compelling. And considering the time of year, fitting.
Here on Gaia lately...
Started my job. Apparently i not only LOVE my job but i am damn good too. Finished training. Have had three compliments in my first full work week (last Monday thru today; i missed one day last week due to a stomach virus and the other was Thanksgiving). My supervisor is really nice. Not just nice, but very empathetic, very caring, and very positive.
Ray and i are heading to Lancaster County this weekend. Spending two nights at a cozy bed and breakfast (YAY). Going to have supper Saturday night with an Amish family (DOUBLE YAY). We are going to try to hit some of the spots we like--Renningers in Adamstown (indoor-outdoor antique market, open all year!), some other antique shops--as well as some new places, like the Christmas Museum, the Christkindlmart, and so on.
All for tonight. Work tomorrow. Lots of love to all!
