"the _____ season was nice. some time in ottawa with the folks, various aunts/uncles/cousins, grandmother. no blowups (a miracle). and then rhode island.
some interesting tidbits:
1. my cousin ben is currently working on putting together the 3D engine for stackspoker.com -- he wasn't too fond of the idea, but they had lost their previous programmer and matched the ridiculous pay scale he requested. his previous work includes the tar monster from scooby doo 2, a social network program for al qaeda (so that csis could "take out" the important links in the chain - theoretically of course), and a simulation of the spread of avian flu for health canada. nice work if you can get it. this is the guy who turned down microsoft and CSIS...
2. the goulets bought me a canadiens jersey for the winter gift exchange, but it's still on backorder. No. 8, Cook, with the Captain's "C" (Captain Cook, get it?). I'm not sure how I feel about wearing it out in public (I'm all about the authenticity of things, and so I would've preferred the second option they considered - 35, Plekanec - they asked elly who my favourite player was...), so I've decided it'll be MY home jersey (i.e., the one I'll wear when watching at home). anyway, since it hadn't arrived in time for "post-christmas" I was given a handmade replica (a gray/grey t-shirt with "Canadiens" in Navy across the front à la Rangers) which I honestly think may have been the best gift I received (and I say that without any sarcasm - I wore it to the 4-1 thwacking of the Sens on the 7th, and I'll be wearing it again tonight vs. the Sharks - and because I can say it's my lucky shirt, I won't hurt anyone's feelings if they find out I don't wear the 'real thing' to the games).
3. i saw BC vs. URI basketball. BC didn't really impress me for a team that was ranked 13th in the nation going in. craig smith is a nice inside force, but probably too short for anything past college; jared dudley was boring; the only interesting player they have is sean williams, who could be the next ben wallace if he gave a damn. i saw the best block i've ever seen that day (being in the second row probably gave it a little more impact than those i'd seen previously) courtest of williams. 6-10, athletic, huge wingspan, drug problems...
... i read about the tunisia affair on tgtravels .... the north will kill you every chance it gets. and don't be down on germany - remember the shootout back in 94 (i think)? maybe it was 92... i always get screwed up because those were only 2 years apart...
