Cribs

Inspired by a conversation I had with  gabriel_writes about trees and houses, and by  namelessarchon's posting of my imaginary house, I have decided to delight you all with a photo of my actual crib.

I’ve decided it looks better at twilight so I switched on all the lights, the better for that cheery look, and headed out to take a picture. I’m sure the neighbours are now convinced that my house is up for sale, as I spent ages out there trying to make it look better than it is. My house is unfortunately just like me. It photos honestly. L

So, there it is, with my car parked in front.   It’s not painted as none of my neighbours have broken rank and painted their houses yet.  We all kind of know that when the first house gets painted, we’ll all have to do it, but so far, fingers crossed, no house painting happening around here.

Anyway, as a lot of people have expressed surprise on entering my house at its size, saying things, like, “OMG, it’s a tardis, etc. “ I’ve taken a picture of the hallway so that you might think similar thoughts, if that’s your kind of thing.

The hallway is quite minimal.  The  door you can see at the end of the hallway is the door to my office. That furry thing on the wicker press is a teddy bear.  I bought him one Christmas because he was being sold with a whole bunch of bears that looked much more Christmassy than him, (white with ribbons and bells on) and frankly his chances of getting home with someone looked slim. He also just had a fairly pathetic expression, so I took pity on him and brought him home and put him in my bedroom where he immediately lost the pathetic expression and started looking all evil and sneery. However I refused to be scared of a teddy bear and would not evict him from the room, no matter what. J Still, I was pretty glad when I moved here so I could honestly decide he looked better somewhere else and put him out of the room without having given into the fear. He’s pretty attitude neutral at the moment but I keep a close eye on him all the same.  (Please take none of that seriously, although it’s all true.)  The Christmas I bought him, my niece developed a strange love/hate for him. As soon as she’d enter the house she’d grab him and beat the crap out of him for the duration of her visit. It was difficult to watch. As soon as she grew out of it, my nephew arrived on this earth and took over from her.   Recently one of my neighbour’s dogs popped in for a visit, and had the bear in its mouth practically the moment it got inside the door.  Perhaps they see something we can’t. J Anyway, moving on.

This is my office, or my study, whatever, the place where I write.  Usually I put a salt lamp on when I’m writing and I left it on one night after I finished up. Passing the study I noticed it on and when I looked in the room had this lovely soft glow about it, so I took this picture. It actually doesn’t look this pretty and atmospheric when I’m actually writing as the overhead light is also on. Writing in the gloom annoys me. So when I’m writing, it looks more like this.

So back to the niece. She came for a visit this Sunday. I had to mow the lawn though, so she promised faithfully to entertain herself while I did that.  And she did. She does love my garden shed, partly I think because she is quite a tall child and she has already outgrown her play shed despite only being seven. My shed, which has my old writing desk and lots of garden chairs in it, allows her to pretend it’s a playhouse she can still  fit in. So anyway, she gathered up some art materials and requested I give her an idea for something to draw. I requested a dragon flying in the night sky. Right oh. She disappeared into the shed with armfuls of paint and glue and pipe cleaners and cellotape and various sparkly stuff, locked me out, and got busy. Forty five minutes later, one moved lawn, and this rather fabulous picture.

I was very impressed. The big dragon is pink. The green one is the baby. You are not allowed to think they look a little bit kangarooish, (she did have a kangaroo obsession not so long ago. I presume she’s still working her way out of it.)  About half way through she emerged out of the shed for a gallop around the garden, and so I volunteered to show her a book about dragons in case she needed ideas.  She was fairly unimpressed with them for not having her specific dragon documented. J

Although the night sky is not coloured black, you can tell it is a night sky by all the lovely spiky yellow stars.

Sometime I must post photos of my spare bedrooms to see can I persuade some of you to come and visit me.  Plus you can paint in my garden shed.J
