Subway buskers, I will end you.
You lot know who you are, too -- those of you who just sit in a station and play ignorably while people walk by, you're ok. You offer your patrons a choice. But those of you who hijack a crowded subway car, play for a captive audience, and then expect to be paid for the performance, you deserve to be wiped from the MTA like the troublesome stain you are.
It's one thing to be irritating during a commute, but as a creative person, I find your tactics offensive. There's an approximation of an employer-employee relationship between artist and patron; they desire your creative services, you provide, you receive compensation. You don't go into your boss's office, shuffle papers around, and demand they pay you. To treat your audience this way is not only profoundly cynical, it's rude, and it's disrespectful of them as patrons, and any decent creative type knows that to respect your audience is important. It's not only good manners, it's ultimately good for business.
If I've said it once, I've said it a million times. YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG.
