I got to sew for most of the day today. I started by finishing the patterning for the bustle gown skirt, which I then cut out and serged. The front five pieces are also assembled and waiting to be pressed. I'm still debating on whether or not I'm going to cut any width out of the back two pieces, but I think a lot of that decision will depend on how much fabric I need for my pleats. The bodice won't take much, and it's looking highly unlikely that I'll have anything left over for a day bodice. This skirt has already eaten fabric up like crazy! I started with just shy of 12.5 yds. At this point, I have a little less than five yards left (plus two 10x50" sections for pleats). And I used that all up while luckily being able to cut and sew with no regard to fabric direction or right/wrong side. I'm so glad this fabric is the same no matter which way you cut it!.
The reason I haven't pressed the skirt seams yet is because I was also embroidering today. I am pattern testing a craft pattern for Laughing Moon, and am making an embroidered Victorian boot pillow. I got all the embroidery done for one side - now I just have to hope that I can lay out everything for the other side to match! I didn't want to risk running the iron while the machine was embroidering, because my iron uses up a significant portion of the electrical circuit for the back of the house. Every time the iron clicks, the light flickers, even with almost no other lights on. My boyfriend is going to change the wiring so that the sewing room gets its own circuit, but until then, I'm trying not to iron and embroider at the same time. I don't want my machine to shut off in the middle of a design!
This is what my boot looks like so far. I really like how the embroidery came out!
No pics of the skirt yet. For one thing, the black silk honestly photographs similarly to a garbage bag, but for two, it is not yet pleated or attached to a waistband, and therefore looks ridiculous on the dress form.
