100 years ago today, the R.M.S. TITANIC hit an iceberg on its maiden voyage, and within 2 1/2 hours the greatest ship ever built (at that time) was at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, taking 1500 lives with it.
It's such a sad, tragic story -- I've been fascinated with the TITANIC and her history ever since the discovery of the wreck back in 1985.
Today I went to the movie theatre to see the release of James Cameron's movie 'Titanic' in 3D. I love this movie, as much as I loved in when it first came out in '97. I'm glad to went to see it again on the big-screen, because this is definitely a movie that was meant to be seen in a theatre. And in 3D it is even more spectacular. I really felt like I was there on that ship as it sank beneath the waves in the dark of night in the middle of the freezing North Atlantic, with lifeboat space for less than half of the 2200 people aboard.
You can't help but wonder, as you watch -- what would *I* do in a situation like that?
Especially after what happened recently on the Costa Concordia off the coast of Italy.
