There oughta be a law that says TV networks can't cancel a show AFTER they've already wrapped up filming for the season. TPTB at the networks should be required to tell the show producers they need to wrap up the storylines in the last episode... AND NOT END THE WHOLE SERIES ON A FRAKING CLIFFHANGER....!!!!
I'M TALKING TO **YOU**, SYFY CHANNEL !!!!
Tonight was the final episode of 'Stargate: Universe'. Which ended forever on an OMG cliffhanger at the end of their second season.... *headdesk*
As a sci-fi fan, I've had to endure WAY too many of these situations. We all must be masochists, to keep watching scifi/fantasy/genre type shows, because we all know damn well there's a really good chance it'll get canceled in the middle of an intriguing story arc and we'll never get to find out how it ends.
The list is depressingly long -- Firefly, SGU, SGA, Invasion, Journeyman, FlashForward, Surface, Threshold, The 4400, Angel, Moonlight, Star Trek Original Series, Earth 2, Star Trek Enterprise, New Amsterdam... And those are just the ones *I* watched personally. Other fans would probably add shows like Space Above and Beyond, Dollhouse, Terminator-The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Dresden Files, Roswell, Millenium, Bionic Woman, Tru Calling, Jericho, American Gothic, Dark Angel, Farscape. And I'm sure we'll be adding 'V' to the cancellation list, if it hasn't already been axed.
And so tonight I mourn the premature death of yet another cool scifi show. YES, I said *cool*! I actually enjoyed watching SGU. No, it wasn't the best show. It didn't live up to its potential, and it still hurts that they canceled SGA to make SGU.
But SGU has grown on me a lot over the last two seasons. I've seen all the episodes, and have gotten invested in many of the characters. I care about them, damn it, and now I'll never know what happens, to them and to the mysterious ship of the Ancients, Destiny...!!! Frak!
Robert Carlyle as Dr. Nicholas Rush was the main reason I kept tuning in. They've always kept us guessing about what his motivations really are... and now I'll never know that either... *sigh*
I like Colonel Young, in spite of (and sometimes *because* of) his flawed leadership. I like T.J., Eli, Varo, Lt. James, Greer, Brody, Park, Volker and Camille. I even like Chloe now.
So long and farewell, Destiny crew. Sadly, you'll all be stranded forever on a starship on the far side of the universe.
Frak you, Syfy channel...
