Title: Find Your Way Back Home

Notes: This isn't really part of the First Class Ticket to Nowhere [Title patent: Me] saga. I've just taken one of the characters and made a little story for myself.
P.S. This does not make any sense. I have no idea what I'm trying to pull. I just felt like writing it.
You had a lie for everything and now your world is crumbling...
A cool breeze rustled the leaves as it swept past, making him shiver. Behind him he heard the sound of someone approaching but he didn’t turn around.
“How long have you been standing here?” Reese asked as she stepped up beside him.
“Not long.” He lied. He glanced at her from the corner of his eye and saw that she carried her 2-year old son, Nicholas, in her arms. The child caught his stare and Cyrus was forced to look away from the eyes that were too familiar for his liking.
For a long time they were quiet and it was Reese who finally broke the silence.
“You weren’t at the funeral.” She said in a tone that made it seem they were just talking about the weather.
He felt a nerve tick and against good judgment he bit out: “You weren’t at the hospital.”
Reese’s shoulders slump and her arms tighten around her son. “I couldn’t…” Her voice was barely above a whisper. “I couldn’t bring Nicholas there.”
“Noah wanted to see him.”
“I don’t have to explain myself, least of all to you.” She was angry now. But whether it was at him or herself, he would never know. She set Nicholas down on the grass and they both watched at he tottered over to his father’s grave. “Noah knew what was happening to him. That weekend you were off with your friends, he spent it with us.” There was a pause as she fought back the tears. “He and I…we said all we had to say. There wasn’t anymore.”
Cyrus didn’t say a word and she continued.
“We came to say good-bye.”
“Good-bye?” He repeated dumbly and she nodded.
“I’m moving back to Milwaukee. My parents live there. I figured it was the best place to get back up on my feet. I could finish school and get a job.”
“Move on?” He added.
“Yes.”
So now you find you're on your own...
"I think it's what's best for me and Nicholas."
He nodded and finally turned and looked her in the eye. “Good luck then. I hope things work out for you. I really do.”
Reese looked at him dubiously before she smiled. “Thanks.”
And they both lapsed into silence.
