Laptop question

My laptop (Samsung NC10) had an annoying quirk where it told you the battery is low, you'd plug in the power lead, but it would still turn off - and then when you powered it up again it would tell you it was about to hibernate - and then work fine.

On the plus side, it's stopped doing that.
On what I suspect is a minus side, the power lead nozzle is getting incredibly hot whenever I plug it in, if the laptop is still on. As in hot enough to burn. And making that corner of the laptop really hot too.

Call me paranoid but that doesn't sound good to me, so I'm trying to only plug it in when the machine is off.

Any ideas if it's the power cable or the laptop that are most likely to be buggered? The laptop is totally out of warranty and has already had its keyboard replaced.
