I just realized that I never made a single journal entry in September. My bad. I've been here, just not too visible. But I thought I'd check in now.
Just got caught up in the Serenity meme craze that's going around. Now, for me it's a pretty pure test because I haven't seen the movie (soon, I hope) and I never saw the series (it's on my Netflix queue.) So I don't have a clue to whom the questions are related on this quiz. Anyway, I'll put the result behind a cut so those who don't care can give it a miss.
You scored as The Operative. You are dedicated to your job and very good at what you do. You've done some very bad things, but they had to be done. You don't expect to go to heaven, but that is a sacrifice you've made for a better future for all.

Anyway--I've been alone all weekend, except for my Dad feeding and tending me, because my sister is at a wedding in Texas. In Arlington. Where I used to live. I'd have killed to go along, but there's just no way I can fly right now. If there had been time to drive, that would be one thing, but Sis is just making this a 48 hour trip. She had to go, though. The bride is nearly as much her kid as she is her mother's.
I hear the wedding was quiet, but great. Any wedding that has motorcycles on the alter has to be fun day. (The groom is a biker with a young daughter in tow. Michelle has her work cut out for her, but she's a good kid. She should do all right.) Sis called, and when I asked her about Michelle's dress, she started crying. Must have been a fine dress. Of course my sister has probably been crying since she got off the plane. She's a sucker for weddings.
I think my dad's eyes are really starting to go. He misread the microwaving directions on a package of knackwurst on Friday, and what he brought in for my lunch...well, let's say that the dog got himself a couple of nice chewies to gnaw on. That's what 20 minutes on high in the microwave can do to an innocent sausage....
There are actually a few new programs on the network schedules this season that I'm finding worth watching. It's giving my DVR a workout, that's for sure. I was pretty impressed with "Commander in Chief," for one. Good cast, good premise. If the writing stays as good as the pilot, it has a friend in me. "Threshold" is staying pretty good after an excellent pilot--I like the characters, too. It reminds me strongly of "The X-Files," but there's nothing wrong with that. "Inconceivable" is interesting, but at the same time as "Numb3rs," so that might cause a pile-up during the baseball playoffs coming up.
Ah, baseball! My Angels have won the Western Division title, so there will be at least one more round of games. That'll plug up some of our new-season viewing, but we'll make a small sacrifice for the sake of the boys in red.
Anyway, back to TV for a moment. Thanks to someone here who shall not be named, I've gotten hooked on "Lost." I fought it, I really did, but one can only resist so long. At least I've been able to fend off "Desperate Housewives," despite the fact that Sis usually watches it on my TV while she's doing other things out here. "Rome" has been pretty captivating, too. Even Sis, who is far from being a history fan, is enjoying it. A full frontal naked Mark Anthony might have something to do with that....
I went to the ENT clinic the other day to get my trache tube changed (a joy, indeed, if you like coughing your lungs up and bloody discharge.) We took Flicka, of course, so I got to ride in proudly, and sat on her the whole time the doctors were working on me. They didn't say a word about working around the front of a scooter. I guess once you've worked at Harbor/UCLA long enough you get used to just about everything. In any case, I feel so much better being able to move myself around without having to be parked by my sister and left behind while she does things. Besides, it's fun when the little kids see it and smile. They get it.
Anyway again, as usual after a long hospital trip, I got sick two days later. It happens all the time. This time it was just a fever, no rashes or signs of infection, and it went away quickly, but it's discouraging to have this happen so often after I leave the house for a few hours. I desperately want to go see "Serenity," I want to go to church next week--so many things I want to do, but it's like throwing dice whether the next trip out will be the one that lands me in the pokey again.
::sigh:: Yeah, like I have problems compared to the kajillion people struggling to get their lives back in the Gulf states. Or the ones getting evacuated out of their homes here in the fire danger zones. That's the big stuff. I have no right to bitch.
So much for now....
