An Eventful Day

Yesterday (Saturday) was the first time I"ve been out of the house and NOT going to the hospital for a doctor's appointment since I got sprung from the place in February. I'm walking pretty well now, using the walker, and got myself out of the house to the back porch where the wheelchair ramp begins outside my door. I wanted to sit down by the ( Read more... )

Black widow bites? Ugh! Your poor mom.

Believe me, there's no way that we could have combed out that mat. It was way past saving. And you wouldn't believe some of the yucky things that were in the hair she cut off. I won't go into details, but the thing is that I have an ongoing problem with "cradle cap," and it showed. Looked like I had corn flakes in my hair.

Anyway, the hair is very cute now and very short, so washing it will be a lot easier (considering that I can't get into the shower, we have to resort to other ways of washing it, and having it short will help.)

The scooter--it's a Rascal. I have ridden rental scooters at several theme parks, and the Rascal I rode at the San Diego Wild Animal Park was by far the best of them. So that was what I wanted, and what we got. This late model scooter has a chair lift that will raise the rider as much as five inches, so she can reach for things or, in my case, see over people at Disneyland (almost impossible in a wheelchair) so I can see the fireworks. It breaks down into very small pieces if necessary and should have no problem fitting into the trunk of my sister's car. (She already has a lift installed for the chair, and with just a little modification it'll work for the scooter chassis.) It's a three wheeled model, but very stable, and its turn radius is very small. Nimble little minx, it is.

As for going to D-land--we're planning a trip over New Years, staying a few nights at the Grand Californian (you have to see this place, Junior. It's beautiful.) We've always wanted to go for New Year's Eve, so this year we're planning on doing it. She's going in July because it's the true 50th Anniversary date (the 17th) and there's no way she's going to NOT be there. So if she wants to borrow the scooter, I'll let her. Her legs aren't in the best shape and don't stand up well to stress, so it'll be better for her that way.
