Poking My Head Out, Looking Around....

Dec 26, 2005 00:26

Hi, y'all.

I've been hibernating for the last week and a half or so. Yeesh, do I have some reading to do! Lots of Friends posts to catch up on. I have an Email backlog that could choke a camel. An what have I been doing? Well, not a lot to show for it. Pretty much been taking December off.

I'd like to thank everyone who sent birthday greetings last week. That was sweet. As almost any December birthday person can tell you, it can be hard to get noticed in the middle of the holidays when you want to have your own little specialness. I guess I'm special enough to have friends who know that, and I appreciate it.

So, Christmas loot reports, anyone? We didn't do a lot of shopping this year for the family. My dad gave Sis and me a gift card for the local movie theaters. Probably enough for the year, the way we've been going lately. Sis upgraded her cell phone to a newer, better model, and got me one, also. It's a camera phone and you can download Itunes to it. Not exactly an Ipod, but it'll do for as much as I ever get away from the computer enough to need something else to play music on. I bought Sis a couple of DVD's by way of Amazon.com, and a gift certificate for Itunes so she can get started on her downloading. And bought into the restaurant gift card for Dad and his fiancee Doreen. So between us I don't think any of us got within a mile of the mall.

Sis also gave me some Disney pins, all "Sorcerer" Mickey Mouse pins...well, one was actually Stitch taking Mickey's place, but it was the same idea.

We ate out here in my room while watching one of the DVD's I gave her. "Love Comes Softly." Just the kind of romance I knew she'd love. And for me (hee-hee, this will mean a lot to some of you) the star was Dale Midkiff, an actor I've become fond of. So despite it being a bit predictable, I liked it.

Yesterday we went to see "The Chronicles of Narnia." I rode Flicka this time instead of using the wheelchair, and it worked pretty well. Sometimes I have trouble getting on and off of her, but I'm beginning to gain some technique, and it went more easily this time. Anyway, the movie--it achieved high marks with me particularly when I realized afterward that not ONCE during the major battle at the climax of the film did I even START to think about the CGI going on, or any other special effects. That's how involving it was, and well done. I described it to someone as being "Lord of the Rings Lite." This was not meant as a disparagement at all--it didn't have same epic scope, but it achieved the greatest goal of all, to transport us. In that it was most effective. I enjoyed it.

And I managed not to get a fever when I got home, so all in all it was a pretty good Christmas Eve.

I kow there are a hundred other things I wanted to mention, but right now I'm too full of turkey-induced droopiness. I'll probably fall asleep five minutes after I post this. Probably won't do much catching up on all of my Friends list of posts or any of my Email, but at least here I can let those who doubted know that I'm still around...::grin::

I hope everyone got what she or he wanted most for their holiday, whether it was the newest electronic gizmo or a peaceful day with friends. And on that note, good night.
