Papercuts and tired arms.
Yeri doesn't stop, she can't stop as colourful paper cranes flourish out of her pudgy fingers, be it flower patterned, checkered ones, plain ones, anything.
Only her small hands move from one paper to another as she sits, hunched to the foot of her bed, paper cranes surrounding her in their stillness and their silent cries of being mercilessly folded in against their forms.
Her eyes stay focused even though her neck strains from all the hours she spent there.
They say if you can make one thousand paper cranes, you'll have one of your wishes granted. Yeri terribly needs this one to happen soon.
"Please make my sister well again," she chants to herself once again with a smile that is puerile and honest. "Please stop my sister from screaming in pain. Please heal my sister."
Yeri ignores the pain and the hurt, the memories of her sister screaming and bounded to the bed in a mad house. Her sister is no longer the same, innocence and purity of a girl tattered into shreds of filth she dug into her arms with her clipped nails.
