I'm excited about some really boring stuff

like, OWNING A VACUUM!!! Yesssssssssss. It works, and it doesn't smell like burned rubber, and I'm a little disturbed about how excited I am, not least because of the implications about the previous cleanliness of my apartment. Not that I could help having gross carpet before, since, well, I didn't have a vacuum ( Read more... )

Sounds pretty! You should really look into www.etsy.com if you want to sell handmade items online. It's easy, affordable, painless and popular, which means lots of people see your stuff. This is my Etsy shop if you're curious:

Do you know how their prices are compared to ebay? I notice there's a 20 cent fee for posting each item, which is not bad, and then a 3.5% sales fee. Isn't ebay free? Also, do you know if there's a way on etsy for people to do advance orders (e.g. I put up a picture of my snowflake ornaments, and people can order however many they want, without me having to post each one/group of four/whatever as I make them)?

Actually, ebay is not free.
The insertion fee for an item priced $1.00 - $9.99 is 40 cents, for example.
Then, they also charge you commission if the item sells:
5.25% of the closing value if your item sells for $0.01 - $25.00, for example.

Etsy charges 20 cents to list, period, where ebay charges more according to the listing price, and Etsy's commission is only 3.5% when you make a sale.
You can make one listing on Etsy for your snowflakes and say you have X number available, and that way you don't have to make a brand new listing for every item, as long as they're all the same. It will charge you a listing fee of 20 cents for each one, though.

Ohhhh, good to know. Thanks! I'll definitely put stuff up there, once I have enough to sell.
