Pride and Prejudice: a kitten's take.

Aug 12, 2010 21:29

Last night I saw Pride and Prejudice at the theatre. Above is what is obviously my attempt at sophistication/theatre attire (note, I said "theatre" and not "theatrical" - BIG DIFFERENCE).

So, my thoughts and conclusions:
Initially thought Mr Darcy was a bit of a standoffish and brusque (as you're meant to think). Not much later I thought he was a whiny little bitch, and by the end I'd rectified my opinion and actually thought him an alright bloke.
Elizabeth had a great name (my middle name's Elisabeth) and was likable. Still married that Darcy though. And you know what? I don't resent her for it. I always end up hating the heroines in these sort of things, but I didn't hate her, couldn't hate her.
Lydia was, of course, the classic spoiled youngest sister. And a bit of a slag (but not really, just acted like one). She then wanted to rub it in Jane's face that she'd married first. Cow. Never liked her. The guy that played Whickham had nice dimples though.
Jane found happiness in the end, with the same man she'd always loved. How... lovely.
Mary was definitely the savviest of the sisters - didn't get herself tied down to a man (in those days, marriage was like slavery), but instead wangled the use of her new brother-in-law's well-stocked library. GOOD GIRL.

I would've written this in a much more fired up and eloquent way if I'd done it sooner, but we got back at almost midnight last night and I've waited until the edge of today to do it. So this is what you're getting.
