A blaze of light seared the sky.
The tower melted.
And a concussion disintegrating everything.
I awakened as confusion crept in around me as I sat up higher on the saddle of my war horse. There was a dream that was vitally important for me to remember but it was difficult to recall what it was. My hand checked my face to adjust my glasses but instead I found a metal helm over my head. My fellow warriors spread out in a loose line of calvary to my left and right over the softly rolling purple grasslands.Ahead of us was a horde of enemy about to charge into our ranks.
I really bloody hate waking up in situations like this not remembering how I got there.
I squeezed the hilt of my lance and my muscles knew how to lift it as we rode towards the enemy. The sound of our horses hooves in the soft ground was very wet and disgusting. The blank faces of the enemy grew larger as we charged their ranks until my lance splintered against one of their shields and the concussion threw me off of the horse into the black squishy mud. The splat as I hit the ground was disorientating.
Everything disintegrated in a concussion.
My hold on what was real melted.
A blaze of light half remembered
It was sometime in the early morning when I awakened in the soft blue light. The usual strange taste greeted me within my mouth. What had happened- I perchanced to recall something about laughter and the clinking of glasses and spending far too much time at our party. And then staying up even later with my lover. We had slept together.
I turned my head and gazed over to the indentation in the bed where my lover was. It was a thick round brick of cheese. I curled up against my wheel of cheese and breathed in its beautiful scent. Wait a minute. What the bloody hell was I doing with a round of cheese?
I reached over to the nightstand and looked around this dark shadowy room. There was my old 78... the multi fire crossbows on one room... and shadows. The shadows were watching me. Out of the shadows came a strange little man who walked over to my bed and smiled.
The cheese has chosen you
My plans for the future hadn't included being chosen by cheese and I was damn sure I wasn't going to lose my grip on reality again. I tensed. "Relax eh." I muttered.
I could hardly believe this was happening. Just as I was about to ask him about the cheese the gentlemen were pulling at my elbows and floating me out of my dim blue bedroom and down a long passageway. There was a shrill sound of applause from ahead and I groaned as it seemed to make my ears burn with pain.
"Bloody hell." I said as they pulled me out on to the stage before the audience. It was composed of everyone I ever knew or ever saw. Their faces rose up into the sky until their numbers blurred into the distant horizen. And they were all looking. At me.
The gentlemen shook their head at me and took out their scalpels and began cutting me
I wasn't trusting them as far as I could throw them but I couldn't move. I couldn't speak. I tried to keep my eyes on them but they cut off everything. The continued cutting until the layers fell to the stage. There was everyone who I pretended to be.
Hanging in their arms and now unable to hide my true nature from everyone the Cheese Man came and smiled to me and offered me a slice of cheddar. Please someone tell me he was having a joke at my expense. I never eat cheddar outside of a sandwhich.
You are the cheese he told me and then walked off stage left.
