Hanan walked away from the table tonight with easily the best line. Seeing as this was my last night with her, Mae, and Mahnor, I thought the least I could do to thank them for our late night chats was offer them access to any American goods that they might like and which My Mom could bring. Innocently enough, I asked them, "is there anything you'd like My Mom to bring that you can only get in America or is cheaper in America?"
Without missing a beat, Hanan, a usually mild-mannered Palestinian girl, narrowed her eyes, stretched out her hands, and leaned into a raspy but self-assured answer: "Weapons!"
It was absolutely classic and had the lot of us doubling over in fits of laughter all night. I'll be smiling about that one for years to come.
