Directly to my helmet

So, tonight was Umbrella Tree/The Spinto Band/The Whigs and it was pretty sweet. I hadn't heard any Umbrella Tree before, but I rather liked them. Boy/girl vocals are frequently lovely. Ben and I were mainly there for the Spinto Band, who did not disappoint despite that the ridiculously tiny stage at Mercy Lounge kind of cramped their awesome dance skills. Also they didn't play Trust Vs. Mistrust, which is one of my favorites, but they did play a lot of presumably new stuff. They haven't put out an album in what, close to two years maybe? I don't know. And Oh Mandy still doesn't get old, I love that song. Plus they did the Throw Some Ds version, complete with odd hand motions accompanying it.

During the between-bands shift we'd gotten to the front for the Spinto Band so that we could put our stuff on the stage, and then partway through the set a bunch of really skanky-looking girls showed up who were all "LOLZ WUT R WE SEEING THE SPRINTO BAND????" and got progressively drunker and one of them looked suspiciously like she was trying to grab the Whigs' singer's package and that was just awkward. I ended up moving progressively further and further back during the Whigs' set, they had a killer bass drum and it got to the point where I could feel my jeans vibrating around my legs and I decided that I would like to be able to hear sometime within the next two days. I hadn't listened to much of their stuff, but I could recognise a few of their songs after only listening to them a max of twice each.
