Awesome day of awesomeness

I've been looking forward for Chris Schweizer's Crogan's Vengence to come out since I first read about it. The wait is over because it was finally shipped to bookstores and finer comic shops with good taste this week.
Why? First, it is a pirate book. I loves me some pirates. Second, the book has a quirky art style that is both cartoon-like on one hand, while still retaining the details and weight of the real world. The closest "name" in comics today that I can compare the art to is Jeff Smith. Last but not least, the book is done by Chris, who used to shop in my little comic store in Hoptown. Even though he lives in Atlanta now, he is still one of the local guys done good. You got to support the local guys, especially when they supported you in the past.
If anyone out in the blarghosphere is not convinced by my reasons alone. It is a 180+ page hardback graphic novel for less than 15 bucks. I dare you to beat that deal with a greased pig tied to a stick.

I had already gotten my copy pre-ordered when I found out he was doing a book signing at the Borders in Clarksville today. So I took my copy to go get it signed, say hello, and maybe get some comic book talk chit-chat in too.

That is a great sketch. But I was honestly humbled by the message underneath. Like I told the_anti_hero, it is times like this that I am proud of the few years I kept that little comic shop opened. It also makes me sorry that I ever closed it. But that is another story for another day.

Thanks Chris! I am about halfway through the book now and it reads and looks great. Best of luck in that crazy comic book biz.
