I had the best idea tonight.
I've been doing 50 hour weeks at work for the last 4-5 months now, and although the money is good - fantastic even - the work itself is dead boring and sometimes when I get depressed about it I think of throwing the whole gig in. So one of my bosses calls me up tonight and says there's a staff meeting on Monday (and in this company "meeting" usually translates to "warning"). Initially I was worried about what the deal is, since I remembered my other boss just got back from his holiday and guessed he's probably not pleased with the amount of complaints that the patrols seem to be getting. I'm pretty sure I'm in the clear, though I have been slacking off due to general apathy and boredom. Maybe it was because I banged my head on the door rim, but hours later I think I felt a little seed of genius sprouting in my frontal lobe. Basically I'm going to use the meeting as a chance to ask my boss if I can have my roster changed to the 2 days a week shift, and say I'm starting tafe as the reason for the change. Pros in point form because I'm too excited to be perfectly legible:
- New Tafe term starts in 3 weeks; plenty of time for him to find a replacement and it strengthens my little plan
- He kept my hours low when I started because of a mix-up in which he thought I was doing tafe, and only put me on fulltime when I said I wasn't
- Old people have a tendency to make sure young people get an education, because apparently that's the ONLY way you can get ahead
- I can move to Sydney to be with my friends and get back to my bummish lifestyle
- I'll still be making a profit
- I can hang out at Dad's/Dave's/Deb's over my two nights of work
- Umm, did I mention LESS BORING SHITTY WORK?
So yeah, it's the perfect plan. Told ya sneaky is best. Just have to wait until Monday afternoon when I ask him, and I don't see why he'd refuse. Hopefully the dude who does the 2 nights shift now will be able to swap with me. I am so incredibly smart that I think I need to lie down now.
