The World is Your Bisexual Oyster

The Problem with Bisexuality

It's the word in front of the definition for what I am, bisexual that is. Bi meaning two as in bi-lingual, where you are fluent in two languages. Sexual, well you know what that means. This would then suggest that Bisexuality is about having two sexualities, wrong! It's about having One Sexuality and that said sexuality includes both sexes and all genders. Not only does the word itself encourage faulty assumptions, but it is horribly dull as well. Bisexual is the brown paper bag of words, no glamour, no attitude.

Then there's the element of drop outs, we all know what I'm talking about [I'm allowed to point a couple of fingers, aren't I?]. To more than one person it's a transition phase, or even worse there are those who treat it like an accessory. Paris Hilton can carry around that little dog of hers showing it off like a necklace or a stylish phone, in the same way bisexual can be used as an artificial flavour in the cake of life. Call it the party trick of sexualities, some people can make their jaws click, other magic tricks and then there are those who are bisexual.

Also I have to admit, it is a rather lame sexuality, from a social point of view. Coming out to the world as Lesbian/Gay is a statement, it's got power, you throw down your gauntlet and challenge the world to accept you as you are or to fuck off. Being Straight you have a certain elemental power behind you, "I have nature on my side and I'm not afraid to use it!" [followed by a confident laughter]. Bi then grows pale in comparison to the two.

Don't get me wrong I am proud of who and what I am and wouldn't want to change it for anything in the world, but someone needs to give it a face lift and come up with a new word to replace the old and rather misleading one. I guess I'm supposed to be one of those persons that dislikes "labels", but I don't, not if they're good labels.

Therefore, with this post I challenge the world to come up with a new label for bisexuality.

bisexual, words, life
